I live within 5 miles of the severn bridge on the top of a hill that overlooks the severn and wye valleys and the welsh hills. No joke I see rain clouds blowing upstream 80% of the time and when I go to wales for work it is rarely ever dry and I don't think i've ever been able to go across the bridge without some rain at somepoint.

BTW, if you were on the A466 from Monmouth to Chepstow, that climb up from Tintern is absolutely lovely. Not difficult at all and definately not steep, but almost alpine like.

It is nice, but I'd done about 95 miles by then, and "lovely" and "climb" didn't seem to go together quite so well any more. Having said that, I then decided for no particular reason other than being bored with that bit of the A48 that I'd climb up and drop into Newport via the gratuitously hilly Catsash Road (over the back of that strange Celtic Manor hotel) which is probably the Welsh mirror of where you live. It was raining...

You're from Newport??? There goes your status as a consummate cosmopolitan. You'd have loved the ads for the silly new space-age station that they've built in the wrong the place. It went something like this:

I've only pedalled to England once and it was quite sunny, so its not always like that. I've not been in over a year and I bet it isn't always like that either
