Been bloody hot, although not as hot as yesterday mind, here in the posh bit.

Now I rec I went for lunch at the Clytha Arms once but it didn't happen, can't remember why not, it wasn't them throwing me out as I usually remember that for the next time. Where'd you have brekky in Brecon TC? I can recommend the Cathedral Kaff for lunch and decent beer next time you're in that direction.

Rains a lot in this part of England - there's a reason we have lakes

I was in England for about three miles, in the Wye Valley. I took a day off and did a big loop through lots of nice Welsh places, and Newport. I had breakfast in Brecon and a sensational lunch at the Clytha Arms, near Raglan. All you have to sort out is this wet England problem, and it'd be perfect...

If I wasn't WORKING then I would enjoy trips like this too. I like Wales it can be a nice place but in some areas has strange folk. The reason why it seems to be dry there is those fluffy white (and sometimes black) cloud mammals are in abundance to soak up the damn rain.

Now give me all your roof slates, leeks and lamp chops and I will waive the visits to england with no fee for border crossing. I would prefer if we charged you the privilege of using the bridge as £14 is not worth it!

Last time I pedalled to Wales it was raining. I drove nearly to Wales today. It was raining. And the M4 is very very boring indeed, though not quite as boring as High Wycombe at 9am. Bradley Stoke is also very boring, and somewhat noisy.

Blimey, I was due to be in a meeting at our offices at Equinox, but went to the other site at Portbury instead. We could have had a party along with Dinamo at yacf who works at Lafarge Portbury as well!

Lucky you.

The one place that stood out for me on my LEJOG that I done, (along with the Lakes)

The great thing is as well imo, that if you going north, you have a hill just as you come into Chepstow then it's a mix of flat and downhill all the way to Monmouth - or what I can remember anyway.

And a jacket made of Goretex or some other waterproof material?
[/quote]

It's a lovely road. Southward it seemed like a gently undulating net downhill as far as Tintern, then a bit of a haul to Chepstow. I've been following rivers- up the Tawe, down the Usk, along a more poxy one called the Trothy, and down the Wye...

I didn't get very wet- I had a waterproof but it was too warm for it. I was just enjoying the perversity of it. At least I was when I started the thread on the train from Cardiff. I got soaked when I got off at Swansea as punishment for my smugness...

It's called TOIL. Possibly the best thing ever invented, barring the Pulltaps Waiter's Friend and hot hard-boiled eggs squashed up with butter. I snuck in the back way- the border controls are terribly lax...

Go back and try again. It's the nuts. I had a fabulous fish soup served with rouille, grated cheese, croutons and two different kinds of homemade bread, a half (you read that right) of Wye Valley ale, and another massive homemade roll with gigantic chunks of baked ham to take away... all for a tenner! Breakfast was unremarkable, but didn't touch the sides- cafe called The Coracle on the main drag, chosen for convenience and bike security...

Please stay in Wales. You are obviously a Raingod, but only in England. I have the same effect in Scotland. Friends tell me of sunny days and big midges, whenever I go it rains like heck. I only cross the border IF I must and apologise to everyone there for bringing the rain. I went to see the Trossachs once. Visibility was so bad my mother had to walk in front of the car to keep us on the road not mist but torrential rain. Whatever the Trossachs are we didn't see them!

As a sign of good neighbourliness ( Scotland is just over 100 miles away.) I try not to go to Scotland, that and I like to breathe air, not water!

Can't blame you. I am Scottish and I live in the place. While you lot down south were enjoying your Indian Summer last week, we had it windy and dry for a couple of days; wet and windy for the rest of it. Today; horrible. Cold, wet and windy. "Summer" was utter crap. Wind never stopped, and for the most part it was chilly and wet too. Not just this year either, I seriously cannot remember the last time we had a decent spell of warm, dry, calm weather.

Apologies to anyone in the east of this god forsaken country, as I believe it's not quite so bad......

(Not having a good day!!!) ;)

I quite often venture over the boarder to Chester, well if I fancy a pretty flat ride England's where I tend to go. When I went last week its wasn't rain but sun burn I came back with :becool:

I live within 5 miles of the severn bridge on the top of a hill that overlooks the severn and wye valleys and the welsh hills. No joke I see rain clouds blowing upstream 80% of the time and when I go to wales for work it is rarely ever dry and I don't think i've ever been able to go across the bridge without some rain at somepoint.

BTW, if you were on the A466 from Monmouth to Chepstow, that climb up from Tintern is absolutely lovely. Not difficult at all and definately not steep, but almost alpine like.
