I'm not sure what happened on your ride but a few of use are if the view that rideing a tyre flat for even a couple of hundred yards can destroy it.

I have just got a couple of schwalbe marathon plus green gards they seem far better than the contis I had previously. But they are heavier.

dunno if it's only me or it needs more time but conti gps are having slightly bigger roll resistance than my year old vittoria rubinos

edit have to ride again to say for sure, i just checked the bike and front brake was slightly tearing the wheel thus making it heavier to roll lol,

I also recomend the schwalbe marathon plus. I use the 700 x 25 they are definitely heavier. They have not let me down.

I used to use Continental 4 Seasons at £30 a pop until I discovered Vittoria Rubinos at under a tenner each. I don't find a great deal of difference riding through the glass-strewn streets of London, either in handling, speed or puncture resistance. At that price, you should at least try a pair.
