Our son swears by it. It's become almost a religion with him. He was a massive meat eater and suddenly one day said he was going vegan. The wife and I said it wouldn't last. He's been at it now for longer than I can remember. He does say, though, that finding vegan meals when out and about is a problem. He travels a lot in his job both in the UK and abroad and complains he can never find a decent place to eat. He tries to convert his mum and dad but the wife refuses to give up meat. I reckon I could be a vegetarian without too much difficulty but being vegan is a step too far for me.

My wife often does the food, but over the years some of the vegetarians have become vegan. A vegetarian option is easy, in fact it tends to be the default. A third vegan option generally proves to be a something of a PITA. So the vegans end up with a single specially prepared dish (and inevitably complain) the majority of the food is vegetarian plus a couple of meaty options.

I could very happily be vegetarian, as I'm already some way down that road. But vegan would be a step too far.
