I only did 3 rides this week, and fell short of my weekly target. I had hoped to do a 35 km ride today but I didn't get much sleep and felt rough when I woke up. Then I looked out of the window and saw it was misty and would be a day of perma-drizzle so I decided to have a quiet day in. The next few days look much better so I'll try to make up some distance in week 46!

Week 45: 3 qualifying rides, 77 km in 4 hrs.

Ride 1 (Tue): 26 km. ELLL incl. extra to Summit and back, then Portsmouth and back. 1¼ hrs.
Ride 2 (Thu): 29 km. Tod to Hebden Bridge station to pick up Metro, HB itself to have coffee and cake with a friend, back to Tod, then up to bike shop in Cornholme and back. 1½ hrs.
Ride 3 (Sat): 22 km. ELLL to Calderbrook/Caldermoor then back to Tod. 1¼ hrs.

Ride All rides on my 6-er.

Success rate: 45 weeks out of 45.

167 qualifying rides so far this year. Weekly target 100 km; total to date: 4,756 km. Average progress now = 105.7%; last week = 106.3% Total ride time approximately 282¼ hrs.

PS Special characters to copy and paste for ride durations - ¼ ½ ¾ !

Managed to twonk my ankle on Friday, so off the bike for the rest of the week. Still tender but I hope to do a few half hour local runs towards the end of this week.

Week 46: 15 rides over 30 mins; distance cycled 239.53km

Weeks 1 to 46: total distance cycled 12050km

I’m pleased to have passed 12,000km this year – it means that whatever happens between now and the end of the year, 2024 will still have been a good year on the bike.

An excellent effort!

I am hoping that bad weather will not stop me achieving my more modest 5,200 km target. I only have to average about 56 km/week for the final 6 weeks so that should be ok.

I will have a go at 6,000+ km next year (500 km/month, approximately 115 km/week), a 15% increase on this year. If I have a very good start to the year I might ramp that figure up in the spring.

Thanks @ColinJ

It’s only the second time that I’ve got over 12,000km in a year. The previous occasion was in 2022 when I went on to do 12,804km. I’d like to beat that total this year but a lot depends on the weather in December.

Yes – you’re nearly over the line in reaching 5200km .. but don’t take your foot off the gas just yet!

Can I suggest that rather than setting yourself a total for 2025 then increasing it if you have a very good start to the year, that you set a minimum target for 2025 – such as 5800km – and a stretch target of perhaps 6200km?

In my experience, increasing targets mid-flight is just asking for trouble/tempting fate...

Maybe a 10% increase on this year's target... 110 km/week, 5,720 km/2025 with a stretch to 115 km/week, 6,000 km/2025. (The weekly stretch target would need an extra 20 km ride to get the 6,000 km in. If I were that close to it I would definitely do an extra hour of riding to get it done!)

Just finished a local ride for the challenge and it started snowing - glad I didn't bother with the extra lap.
Blippin' slidey out folks, so please go steady.

I was out in bitterly cold but sunny conditions just before that. (For those who don't know, I am about 25 km south of @FrothNinja.) There were patches of ice on minor roads so I stuck to the main valley roads, which were ice-free and being regritted while I was out. I got home and then the snow arrived!

This was my first ride of the week and Saturday looks like being winter-stopped-play so I will have to squeeze rides in on Friday and Sunday, dodging the worst of the weather. I doubt that I will get my 100 km in this week but I'll see if I can manage at least another 40 km to add to today's 24.

Week 47: 7 rides over 30 mins; distance cycled 116.85km

Weeks 1 to 47: total distance cycled 12167km

Easily my worst week of the year – that’s the least distance I’ve achieved in a week since mid-November last year when I had family staying (and when I also had a bad fall in the Forêt de Paimpont).

50mph winds forecast for almost all of today so I very much doubt if I’ll get out and, if I do, I certainly won’t be going far.

Hoping that week 48 will be much better.

I wimped out in bad weather this week! I did enough to keep my weekly average for the year above target, but didn't want to do much more than that!

Week 47: 3 qualifying rides, 66 km in 3½ hrs.

Ride 1 (Thu): 24 km. To Hebden Bridge station (for a copy of the Metro), back to Tod, then a bit more on the valley road towards Littleborough and back. 1¼ hrs.

Ride 2 (Fri): 26 km. Tod, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge station (for a copy of the Metro - dangerously icy on ungritted station road!!!), back to Tod, then a bit more on the valley road towards Littleborough and back. 1½ hrs.

Ride 3 (Sun): 16 km. Tod to Cliviger Gorge lights and back, plus little tour of Tod hills. ¾ hr.

All rides on my 6-er.

Success rate: 47 weeks out of 47.

173 qualifying rides so far this year. Weekly target 100 km; total to date: 4,931 km. Average progress now = 104.9%; last week = 105.8% Total ride time approximately 292 hrs.
