Having sampled both varieties I can confidently state that Kennedy's Chocolates beat Thorntons' and Hotel du Chocolat's offerings by a considerable margin.

It's a shame that they stopped taking online orders and have disabled the ordering/selection pages for Christmas delivery this Wednesday.

You'll all have to make do with inferior chocolates.

I've just received confirmation from Kennedy's Chocolates that my wife's chocolates are on their way.

Swiss Army chocolate is the best (especially when you have 70 bars left)

Neither for us, being as we live 15 mins down the road from Hotel Chocolat's base and factory shop, plus Thornton's has gone right down the toilet over the years (see also Green & Blacks).

For special presents, I use our local chocolate maker, Saffire. They are definitely for grown-ups, not overly-sweet, and in her farmer's market days, used to grow many of the plants used in fillings.

Montezumas giant choc buttons would be my choice if I had a partner to buy chocolate for

The office is getting a tub of Celebrations from me on Monday, because the daily mountain of sweet stuff in the kitchen is obviously insufficient!
