This tiny submarine 2.4 miles under the sea, visiting the relics of RMS Titanic. Can it be found and the crew saved before the air runs out?

Looking as videos available online of the submersible, and how it is bolted together, it would not be a surprise if the seal between the two pieces suffered a catastrophic failure.

The main section is made from carbon fibre around 5" thick.

Pictures on the Internet show fittings such as monitor mounts screwed directly into the interior CF wall. Its probably perfect fine, but it made me cringe.

According to CNN the final communication was a ping rather than a text, the ping being used as a distress signal. A ping followed by silence leads me to believe a sudden and catastrophic strudtural failure rather than a simple comms issue. I fear that you are likely correct on that score.

Obviously the submersible wasn't designed by a cyclist - at least we know what happens to carbon fibre when you get it wet.

That is unbelievable if true!

Why would they not epoxy tabs / cleats for items to be screwed too?

It's tragic and very sad for the families of those who may have died. Other than that, in the great scheme of things, it's no worse than everyday deaths on the roads. Just more public and newsworthy. I really do hope they have surfaced and are alive but as @HMS_Dave said the chances are less than slim.

Agree. Consider Ukraine, overloaded refugee boats sinking etc, etc.

No matter what anyone thinks hope these people are rescued and come home safe.
I can't see any evidence that any contributors hope otherwise.

The corks on the bottles of wine will be forced inside allowing pressure on each side of the glass to equalise.
I still can't fathom it out. I will just not sink in! 🧐 So if the corks are forced inside, at what point of the decent to the bottom did/does that happen? Surely it didn't/doesn't happen when the bottles reach the sea bed, as by that point the pressure would've crushed the bottles at a lesser depth point? 🤔

Reports coming in of a sonar picking up banging sounds. Would be amazing if it is the sub and they get out.

If they do, I hope they have the decency to offer a very large contribution towards what this will be costing. Not entirely sure I agree with people putting themselves in needless danger for thrills and putting others at risk and costing a massive amount of money to rescue them when it goes pear shaped.
