Well, go see how you get on. I would be VERY surprised if you get dropped. If you can ride at 12-13mph average on your own, 15mph in a group will be easy.

Enjoy yourself and good luck

Oh yeah, I can definitely do 12-13 by myself. Thanks for the help, I'll post an update tomorrow letting you know how it goes.

Just back from the ride, there was around 15 people there. It was a very hilly 40 miles with an average speed of 20mph. I was given tips on drafting, hand signals, all the stuff that you need to know for group rides. People were asking me if I had joined the club yet and recommended that I do (which I will!).

There was a few stops, one guy had a puncture and we had to stop and fix it. I was given two energy bars by different people and another guy gave me his water bottle. Very nice bunch of people. It was pretty social but we had to keep going, no coasting allowed!

I plan to sign up for the youth club now, that's me done my hardest ride so things should be easier now :heat:

I am also thinking of joining a club but I will wait until next spring as Strava is telling me I need to increase my speed ad distance.

lol, joining club will help you build up your speed and distance far quicker and better then some silly computer program.

Well done, Jazloc! Sounds like you had fun.

I've been trying to get on one of my local CC's open invitation rides, however their online calendar that tells me when these rides are doesn't work.

Guess I should just ring someone up!

I think your best bet would be to frequent this forum and if there's any rides coming up, leave a reply. Or you could create a thread and plan your own ride and see if there's any interest. http://cyclechat.net/forums/cc-informal-rides-and-events.47/

Well done!
I need to find a club down my way :becool:

Mate, if you're in South Bucks, Denham can't be too far away for you.
There is an informal* group that rides out from near the nursery on the A40 opposite where Denham car boot is. I've been out with them a few times. They have 2 groups, amusingly known as the "medium" and "fast" groups (there is no "slow" group). I just turned up as a noob and they took me under their wing.

The "medium" group does about 30 miles, usually with a tea stop at Jenners in Maidenhead, and a pace of I guess 15-16mph ave. They do ride in formation, which takes a bit of getting used to, and they'll expect you to do so too, but they'll give you tips and are generally quite laid back.

My first time in the "fast" group was a bit of a shock. Having ridden with the "medium" group enough to get the hang of the bunched up riding and to get my fitness up, my mate Lee (who is a serious hardcore ex-racer) convinced me I should ride with his group. This group rides a LOT faster and probably do more like 45 miles without stopping, at more like a 19mph average. A lot of the fast group are racers but if you go during race season with a bit of luck they'll be "saving themselves for tomorrow" so slightly slower. I didn't get dropped, but it was hard work and someone actually rode behind me pushing my saddle to help at one point! That was a couple of years ago, so if I went back now I'd definitely go back to the "mediums".

Get yourself down there, I believe it's a 9am start on Saturdays.

* I say informal, because I heard about it from a mate and there didn't seem to be any sort of club strip or anything, just a couple of groups of 'regulars'.
A bit of internettery leads me to believe it might be the Willesden Cycling Club

Sorry, in this instance I meant CC to mean Cycling Club, although I can see how it'd cause confusion on a forum called Cycle Chat!

I have looked at forum rides, but unfortunately there don't seem to be any near me! I don't own a car so any forum rides would have to be within reasonable cycling distance for me to attend.

Well done jazloc!

Were you out down Dalry way by any chance? Passed a bunch of Johnstone Wheelers on Highfield Road heading towards Glengarnock earlier today

Yup, pretty sure that was us! We went through Kilwinning, through Dalrie and into Kilbirnie and then went on to Loch Winnoch. You might have saw me, green jersey, black shorts, red bike?
