I don't like Bob Marley & The Wailers. There. I've said it. Never have done, never will do and to quote my Mother 'it's just a bloody racket' (Unlike Yngwie Malmsteen who is awesome so there Mother)

What I really don't like is Karaoke BM&TW so to my neighbours 10 doors down:

Shut the f*** up, you annoying gobshites. You can't fricking sing, you are worse than the sainted Bob, and that is saying something. You are well over 50 metres away and the 'music', and I use the word in it's most general sense, is so loud that we can't hear the TV. I can hear it over guitar practice with my headphones on.
Buffalo Fricking Soldier, 5 times in a row now, has lost it's appeal, not that I ever liked it in the first place.

Thank you
I'm not a fan of reggae, but I like Buffalo Soldier.

My sister and b-in-law had 3 young women move in next door. They immediately started throwing regular noisy parties. One party started at 12:00 on a Saturday and was still going at 03:00 on the Sunday. B-i-L finally cracked and went round to complain. They laughed in his face and told him to p*ss off ..

It's gone all quiet now. There are police outside their gate. I don't think that I am the only one around here who doesn't like Karaoke, or Bob Marley for that matter. Back to our nice quiet street again.
Eventually, the police got involved. They knocked on the door and were NOT told to p*ss off. The music was turned down, and there was a nice quiet street again.

But they watched the police car drive away and then they turned the music up again.

Another neighbour went round to complain and got into an argument with some of the drunken young men at the party, one of whom followed him home, tore the neighbour's garden gate off its hinges, and lobbed it through his window!

More police involvement ...

You'd have gone off it after the 3rd rendition by totally pi**** women who would be more at home on a fish market.
My B-i-L was starting to get seriously stressed by the behaviour of those morons, but then something wonderful happened ...

The girls started fighting over some good looking guy who they all fancied. (B-i-L could plainly hear what they were shouting.) The next thing, one of them got thrown across the room and went through a glass coffee table! Another neighbour knew the landlord and phoned him to tell him that his house was being trashed. The landlord turned up a few minutes later and was heard giving them notice to quit. They laughed in HIS face and told HIM to p*ss off, they knew their rights, etc. etc. The landlord turned and left.

An hour later, the landlord came back with several very large men. It all went quiet. Soon afterwards, the girls were seen taking suitcases out to several taxis waiting outside ...

47? You're but a babe in arms. What are your employers like about continuing professional development? Would they support your application for, and contribute to fees for some further academic qualifications for you? It would give them additional options when recruiting, and also help them to tap your potential. Would your current experience and qualifications mean you could go straight on to some sort of Masters' course that would accredit your prior learning?

These might be good places to start:

Many thanks for the information.

I'll never advance any further with this employer. There's no personal development, reviews or feedback (unless it's assumption based ranting).

I've thought of switching to accountancy and finished AAT level 2 in May.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. One of the biggest causes of stress is when people feel trapped in situations where they have no control and no ability to change things As soon as you are in a position where you change the things that will make it better for you, you put yourself back in control.

Bingo! You always have a choice.

If you have a marketable skill set why not go contracting?

If you want to get into accountancy do you want to go into practice or industry?

If you are looking for practice [audit work, stat accounts, tax returns etc] than after AAT you should consider ACA or ACCA. Most practices will also pay for your training but the wages at AAT level can be rubbish in comparison to IT.

If you would prefer to go into industry and working in a company with real live data [bookkeeping, month end reporting, Intrastat and EC Sales etc] like me you should consider CIMA after AAT. You could even switch to CIMA Certificate the AAT equivalent if you wanted to and get some exemptions.

The route I took was AAT level 2 to 4, CIMA Diploma and Advanced Diploma to qualified. It took me about five years but I am debt free as I got sponsored by all my employers over the years. I am also on a decent wage which pays the mortgage, a car and a few other extras.

The big plus of accountancy is that as you progress up the ranks in organisations some of the wage increases are substantial.

I'm glad your location is Falkirk as I've been neglecting our hedge for too long now... I blame our friends selfishly getting married or asking to go out cycling with me!
