It's all about the process, a RH person usually takes the left lace in the RH & the right lace in the LH, they instinctively take the left lace over the right lace, then they loop the lace in the RH (left lace) & loop the LH (right lace) around it to tie it off.

However if in the first instance you take the RH (left lace) & go UNDER the LH (right lace) then loop the RH (left lace) as usual it will not come undone, it feels foreign the first 20 or so times, but you get used to it. You can tell you have done it correctly as the bow lays across the shoe/boot & not down it's length.

It is in effect tying a reef knot & not a granny knot.

You don't need a double knot, you just need to learn to tie them the right way in the first instance, it's not the natural way & the way most people have been taught, but by going under rather than over solves the issue.

Wow! I did not even think of trying it that way. Ok, so I will try that later today.

You know this thread is really rather useful. First I had some nice film telling me how to figure out various technical issues with phone or computer, and now shirt laces!

Very constructive stuff! Thank you everyone.

Music jamming devices for public transport. Odds are I don't like your music so I shouldn't have to listen to it in a confined public space.

Genetically modified peas that have that perfect round symmetry changed to a square shape would be nice. I find that even when using a spoon instead of a fork, garden peas roll/fall off the spoon and bounce all over the place. Only to end up being walked into the floor, with bits of squashed pea stuck in the treads of my shoes!🧐

It's a serious issue trying to open the ring as it always facing the wrong way and getting the key on takes a fair bit of dexterity.

It's a serious issue? an inconvenient issue yes, but serious one, as @Alex321 says, it can be difficult for anyone depending on the type of ring & key,

I find that double knots are good for laces that are too long. On the odd occasion I've even used a triple knot on trainers, if the laces are too long and in danger of catching on or looping round gym equipment, car pedals etc. Then of course you could just cut their length and tie a small knot in the ends to stop them fraying, which I've done in the past.

A special button on my bike that I can press when faced with an escooter rider coming at me the wrong way down a mono-directional left hand cycle lane painted on the road and instantaneously stops it dead:okay:.
