Why? I don’t think I’m missing much, I’ve seen a few films on TV etc, and to be honest usually get restless and lose interest before the end.

You haven't missed much. I tried it a few trimes but decided that being in a large dark room full of strangers and noise wasn't my idea of fun.

Last time was to see "Erin Brockovich" in Mumbai, and the only reason I agreed was that I was in danger of getting heatstroke and the cinema was air conditioned.

I can't speak from personal experience (unfortunately), but I believe so, from what I recall having seen in published studies (some time ago, don't have any links).
