The state of our roads these days!

I always report potholes on our local government website. They generally get repaired pretty quickly, although some seem to need repetitive reporting to get the job done.
If everyone spent the time online reporting a pothole, instead of telling us about them on Cycle Chat, maybe more of them would be repaired?
If you have an accident involving a pothole, it's always worth checking to see if it's already been reported. Whoever is responsible for the upkeep of the road could be liable, if they knew there was a problem and had done nothing about it.

As a local rider, you may be interested to know that what I reckon to be the "Worst Local Road Surface in the Peak District" is in the process of being resurfaced

It's the first km or so of the Rushop Edge climb out of Chapel en le Frith towards Castleton. It's as if they have put a very thin layer of tarmac on the Arenberg Trench....except now it's all smooth and lovely

I've just done my normal commute after a couple of weeks off and discovered they have properly resurfaced one of the roads .... thing is I can't remember it being awful, just lots of 3 ft square depressions from where they did a shoddy gas or water main work. Still it was nice ... also seems to have fewer lines on it. (Just checked on Streetview and it did used to have a central line, Toronto Road). It seemed quieter today but then lots of places did because of the mist.

It isn't a hole so no. The surface is rough. So rough you think your fillings are going to fall out.

It's getting bad. I went down a road yesterday on the way back from hospital that I used to commute on before moving base to Manchester. Surface is broken up, full of holes and loads of gravel on a bend, and this is a town centre road.

That's always been shocking, and the bottom of the Cat and Fiddle, especially under the trees before the first hairpin.

It isn't a hole so no. The surface is rough. So rough you think your fillings are going to fall out.

It doesn't have to be a pothole. If the surface makes progress unsafe in any way - report it.

I think it's down to changes in the weather these days.
After the big freeze of December 2010 in Scotland,when it melted, the roads had all sunk and potholes appeared at will.
I don't think Councils can keep up with the sheer amount of road complaints still.

I'm constantly weaving around the potholes. The ones near the drains tend to be a double wammy. Last year I went over a massive pothole and got a pinch puncture in the middle of knowhere, funny thing was as I was fixing it a lorry turned up to repair the section of road! I almost laughed.

I was at a meeting when the councils highways subcontractor at Cheshire East said that the budget for highways is insufficient to maintain the roads. They used a computer model to id which roads were worst and dealt with them first. He left us under no misapprehension though that the situation was likely to get better until there was substantial additional spending. As the NHS and education is suffering I suspect that roads are not going to be top of the list.

Makes me glad I stick to the trails.
Fortunately though,the local council here have relaid the farm and moors roads.
Making it a haven for Road cyclists.

Wonder if they will resurface it before the TOB goes up it. They have been patching areas on The Cat and The Brickworks.
