The AS10/15 looks good but your comments on the inability to deal with complex screen shots are holding me back a bit. I think I will hold out till Jan when the rush is over for GoPro 3 black and there are more comparisons available. It also gives a bit of time for any undiscovered problems on any of the camera's to emerge.

The current reviews on the GoPro 3 black are very good on image clarity. It looks like a very good package.

I think most of your footage would be fine. As for night video, it's usually easy to compress as detail and colour is limited, so I wouldn't anticipate problems.

The low light performance of the Sony is excellent and is far superior to the GoPro black, I think due being back illuminated.
This video made my mind up to buy the Sony, as it shows it's superior low light performance.

Both camera's have their own advantages and disadvantages, I have a GoPro Hero 2 and was going to buy the GoPro 3 black but I feel the price is too much for a camera not very good in low light conditions, which is important this time of year.
In my opinion the principle advantages of the Sony over the Hero 3 black are,
1) Excellent low light performance,
2) Battery life, over 2hrs 10mins whereas the Hero 3 is reported to last just 1hr 17mins(both 1080p),
3) File size, a 32gb card is enough for over 4 hours with the Sony but my protuned GoPro Hero 2 uses up the 32gb card in less than 2 hours(both 1080p),
4) You can buy cheap OEM batteries and chargers for the Sony.
5) Price, for the current RRP of the Hero 3 Black you can buy 3 Sony AS10's.

I maybe be tempted next spring just because I find the 2.7k setting interesting but that depends if the price comes down and if GoPro sort out the bugs, something common with GoPro and also something they are not great at fixing in a speedy manor.

AS15 winging it's way to me too.
Re. the fogging. Sony have just released re-usable anti-fog pads. GoPro do something similar.
Re. the poor audio when in the case. They have also released a "door pack" with a diving specific door, and a less water proof (10M depth only) which is supposed to improve sound without losing the waterproofness we need.

I don't have a major issue with compression as the cam will be primarily for commutes and would say my priorities were similar to BSRU's in the previous post.

My concerns are more about mounting. Bar mount for me as I can't yet find a helmet mount which suits the cam with the waterproof case on. Going to try one of these: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/minoura/le-korde-camera-mount--ec029185

I was looking to side-mount mine on my helmet (rather than having the thing sticking up on the top of my head). However, unless I resort to using sticky pads & cable ties I don't think this will be possible. I may keep my current helmet camera in use and use the Sony for a rear-facing camera, which I will again have to resort to some sort of 'Heath-Robinson' approach

Here's the bar mount I made - I used an Acor clamp to try and bring the camera forward to keep the STIs out of shot. However, I'm going to change it back to clamping on the bar directly as it does add some vibration movement, even though it is very rigid. The Sony mount is held on the block by a couple of countersunk screws.

How about something like this:

Total weight may be an issue as a side mount, and I can't find any high street stockist to take a look.

Top mount with this maybe? But I can't see a way to quick release like the first mount:

P.S. Rear-facing would be quite cool whilst viewing using wifi on a smart phone on the bar.

The helmet mount for the waterproof case is a VCT-GM1, the same as this one on EBay

As for bar mounting I use a RAM mount, nice and solid.

I used two forward facing Sony's today, one with SteadyShot and one without, seems SteadyShot produces a smoother video but the compression issue is far more noticeable.

Well, waiting for delivery of an AS15. I don't want to retire my Camsports HDmax, I'd like to use it as a rear facing cam but the USB connector is playing up & the batteries barely give 30 min of record time now.
