Agree that people who deliberately commit driving offences that cause harm
and then do it again and again

should get a lifetime driving ban
and I would also not take "hardship" into account

If are found guitly of dangerous driving or drunk driving - and causing harm by doing it
and you get off without a ban - or with a small ban
and then do it again then you have had your warning, had your sympathy
and you have ignored all that and just gone ahead and ignored the warning and sympathy

so get the book, add a few more and chuck it at them - hard!

Especially rich people with good lawyers!!!

I think there's a strong case for re-introduction of hard Labour, the country is in a dire mess, certainly could do with 'scrotes , going out and tending to the land, picking up litter, fixing pot holes, all menial kind of work.
Yes there is the community schemes ,but hardly hard labour painting railings, that sort of stuff , we need ditches dug, and pot holes filled or even new roads laid, yes this is semi skilled work, but a lag with a pick aclxe ansvshovel can do the heavy labour.

But I've got bone spurs!!!
(actually I have - and asthma - neither would stop me digging a ditch
although it would be slow

but it would need people to supervise and log time and be trained in how to deal with arguments, complaints and all that

and what would happen if one of the scrotes fell over and/or hurt them selves - or someone else - with a spade ir pick axe??
the Health and Safety lawyers would have a field day

it isn;t as cheap as it sounds or as simple

I would support it though but I'm glad I don;t have to set it up and run it

They didn't think like that when they sent Oscar Wilde to Reading gaol, or convicts to the new colonies in the Southern hemisphere.
Basically ,you forfeit the right to live by common decencies ,should you be convicted of crimes.
But theres the rub, is it beyond doubt that you had been very , very ,naughty, do naughty ,too naughty to sit on the naughty step of shame.
I don't support capital punishment, once your dead, your dead, you can't say sorry to a corpse

The ban doesn't run concurrently with the prison sentence. The ban starts when the offender is released from prison.

Which will not be the full nine years, of course, so it won't be 19 years until he can drive again.
Thanks for putting me right ... and lowering my anger point by a few degrees :okay: ^_^

Cattle prods would work really well for separating miscreants and giving them a new sense of perspective ^_^

You could train or recruit from the older lags to supervise the chain gang,it's hard labour. If they start a fight let them sort it ,the chain gang that is, it's not meant to be a tea party, it's punishment.
Consider it redemption that being an overseer brings rewards, after all prisons have parole systems.
Still need authority to train & supervise.

Like a trustee system? I like it.

Anyone who doesn't like it can choose instead to only thenlaw and thus not be sent to chokey in the first place.

His killed someone, by running them over In a car, why the heck should he ever be able to drive again, and not his first motoring offence.

Agreed. If he'd killed someone by carelessly discharging a licenced shotgun in a public place while drunk, do you think he'd be allowed to keep his shotgun licence after a short ban?

Being a shotgun owner that disparity of attitude between the availability of weapon to violent offenders leaves me deeply puzzled.

Wave my Beretta about I'd lose my licence without so much as a trial and I'd never get it back.

Actually kill someone with a car and actually be convicted they might not even go to jail and will likely be free to legally use the same weapon again before too long.

It's crazy.
