You missed a bit. Two year ban, 150 hours community service and a 10 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months.

Phew! It's lucky for them the police didn't find any dodgy Firesticks!

Why? That doesn't carry a prison sentence necessarily. You seem to be confusing possession of a dodgy firestick with the act of running a business loading and selling dodgy firesticks in vast quantities. A mass act of fraud, does indeed carry a prison sentence.

Left for dead.
Another 2 year ban example.

The court was told Morse had convictions for 128 previous offences, including failing to stop and driving whilst disqualified.

300 hours of community service might hurt him a bit

but I wonder how effective this is and how well it is executed and really interferes with their life

Good subject for a good documentary for someone maybe

Such a sad and meaningless waste of a life 😢. A shame the driver didn't die instead  My condolences to the family and friends of the victim. I have family and friends that live in Yate and I'm not sure how I would cope if the victim had been one of them.

Whilst it is pleasing (for me) to see that this driver has been imprisoned and further banned from driving I do wonder (yet again) what the point of banning someone that is already banned is and, why the new ban runs concurrently with the prison sentence, effectively meaning it is just a one year ban? If the new ban was to be applied from when the driver is released from prison he would have been kept off our roads (at least legally) for nineteen years instead of ten and we would all be safer for longer.

I think he'll only do half the sentence inside. He'll be banned when he comes out for five years. Agreed it is feeble really considering all the exacerbating factors.

The ban doesn't run concurrently with the prison sentence. The ban starts when the offender is released from prison.

Which will not be the full nine years, of course, so it won't be 19 years until he can drive again.

His killed someone, by running them over In a car, why the heck should he ever be able to drive again, and not his first motoring offence.
And likely not his last,he is very likely to re- offend when he is released, ignoring any such bans on his activities

Indeed. People such as he who repeatedly harm others or put them at risk are the ones who should be receiving life sentences to protect us.

Those who merely upset Sky by selling dodgy Firesticks have committed only a financial crime, and a massive financial penalty would be more fitting, thus freeing up prison space to house the that pose a risk to life and limb.
