ok Mrs P has gone over to Goosnargh,Father in Law not well.Other Sister has been there but needs to go home for a hospital app Thursday.father in Law said he does not want to be on his own.Now that is a first. He has a kidney infection according to the Doc's this morning. Not eating and so tired. So Postman has got his diy head on.And wow.first thing was the removal of an ikea bookcase with doors. When we moved it there was damp on the back of it.So eight inches of the wall upwards has been washed, sandpapered and painted with Ronseal damproof paint, then skirting board has had a coat of oil based undercoat. Then started to deal with hairline cracks, seven of them, three across the ceiling. But it was the cleaning that took the longest. My word dust everywhere, anyway i used what i thought wax B & Q's own filler. So for some reason i thought it might not cover well when painted. So looked up some reviews and it's highly rated. So another day tomorrow and Monday next week will see me on the final laps.Early night tonight i have a dinner date tomorrow if i can get enough diy done.

Don't be demoralised. I suspect our circumstances are different. If you're riding solo it takes real determination to get stuck in and avoid finding excuses not to ride.

There's some very tough stuff happening in my personal life with Mrs P's health. You know I have two regular cycling buddies, we are close, we come as a package as one of them said to me last week. My buddies have given me physical and mental support since the diagnosis and RTC. I have a PT who was a close friend before we started working together two years ago. I've had six months of PT advice, support, workouts, etc. I was stunned when I got my Cervelo out and found I could ride it properly. That's 100% down to my PT who put together a programme to rebuild me physically and listened to me when I needed rebuilding mentally.

I wouldn't have rebuilt my fitness without the support I've had, I might well have stopped.

Good reply & very honest. And useful, too!

Tbh, I feel generally demoralised at the moment.

Exercise has been pretty reasonable throughout winter and I have stayed on-track in the main; mult-gym, turbo, treadmill.

Cycling, though, has been pathetic - weather (bad), knee injury (nearly sorted) and shoulder (awaiting physio from NHS) plus I have had some sort of sinus issue for a few weeks now which has really drained me.

After a 7 month layoff I have done three rides in the past couple of weeks (<50 miles total) and they have been v.slow although post-ride recovery is pretty quick. I can't say I have really enjoyed the rides, tbh.

As an aside, I think turbo trainers are almost a waste of time in terms of keeping fitness up unless you spend hours & hours on them. They do not replicate cycling enough imo. No movement of body mass, no wind resistance and no constant physical micro-course corrections, etc. They do help keeping your butt toughened up though!

I think you are 100% correct in terms of identifying the value of a support network.

I think the approach I shall take is to start as a complete beginner and forget my previous riding distance (20-40 miles) and just do 10's & 15's and build up slowly from there.

Fitness: hard won, easily lost!

I’ve resigned myself to doing shorter rides. I’m quite happy with between 10 and 20 miles at the moment. Changed days from several years ago when I did an awful lot more. I just ride for fresh air and exercise and not sure I want to spend much more than around 90 minutes on a bike now.

Barnet,
Good morning all.
Today I have to pick up a prescription so as I'm a pretty mobile, with the aid of my crutches, I shall get on the bus and go up to the high road. There are a couple of other things I need as well. I tried walking to the post box without the crutches yesterday, and although I managed ok, the knee area was a bit painful afterwards. Maybe trying a bit much, a bit early.
MrsP is out with a couple of friends for lunch, she is taking Millie with her as they are walking before eating.
Enjoy your day everyone :cuppa:
Ps, it's going to be a bit cloudy today with a top temperature of 13⁰.

You seem to be progressing much faster than the lady I know in the next street. She seemed to use her crutches for several weeks.

Another gorgeous morning here. Chilly just now but much brighter than yesterday so it should warm up soon.

Nothing exciting happening apart from a hair cut at 9am…..if you can call that exciting.

Morning folks :okay: nippy first thing but its going to be a warm, sunny day. Going to sell my E-MTB a Orbea Keram medium size if anyones interested. It was an interesting experience but prefer leg power alone where i get 'jeez im knackered' anxiety rather than 'im gonna have to push the ****** home' range anxiety! Definitely out for a spin today and will keep an eye out for returning ospreys.
