Ah, we all walk / take the Bus to the station to catch the train, ditto on the return journey. Mrs Tenkaykev gave her car away over three years ago, and I'm one of those weirdos who has never owned / driven a car ( though I did learn to drive following redundancy in 1992 )
For the Copper Street Brewery in Dorchester at the end of the month we can get a " group save " day return for about £5 per head if there are three or more travelling, couple that with our Bus passes and it's a " No Brainer "

I passed my car test in 1982 but didn't buy my first car until 2012, car doesn't get a lot of use these days, when my God Ladies with me we have to use the bus but they take a long time to get anywhere and are very restrictive, theres lot of places we'd like to go but we can't get to them on the bus.

That is great. Warrington is a BIG town, virtually a city and not inviting. The 2 pubs within striking distance are typical 'big brewery' pubs although one of them does have guest ales eg Timothy Taylor.

I have thought for many years that the cost of buying a car, taxing it, insuring it, the cost of petrol/diesel and general servicing and other running costs would equate to a lot of bus/train or taxi fares.
Of course that is if you have access to public transport.

Fully agree.
There is a bus stop approx 500 yards away from me. A bus to town centre every 30 minutes.
I went to get a bus a couple of weeks back. Got there 10 minutes early to be certain. It just didn't turn up!! So much for public transport.

I passed my test aged 17 and have done gazillions of miles since then (in my quest to destroy the planet).
I need it less and less but shops are not within reach without taxi. (Bus service is crap)

18 here and very sadly I know, to the nearest thousand, how many miles I have driven since then - 1034000. Nowadays only around 3500-4000 pa.

Mr WD decided not to cut any wood from our trees this year. Its a lot of work for not enough gain to make it worth while.

True but fortunately I only have to log and split. Through the year I scavenge anything that falls off a village tree and store it. I'll get it done over 2 - 3 days and I get some satisfaction knowing the daytime heat is costing nothing.

I can though see in a few years swinging a log splitter might not be a good plan 🤣

Dog walked, breakfast consumed, house tidied, music practice, weights lifted. Now relaxing in my armchair while Bruce is on stag on the windowsill to alert me when my fire wood delivery arrives.

Then it's off to B&Q. Life on the edge, eh?

I can't say I know exactly but I had 40+ years of driving 25 - 30000 miles pa. Bonkers really. As a young man I thought nothing of driving to London and back........in a day.

Every year since retiring I've ridden more miles than I drive. The weather means that could be touch and go this year. Cycle miles are way down.

There's an app I use that gives live bus times. I've used it in other cities too. The local implementation even shows which stop the bus is currently at, handy if it's raining and the buses are running late.
