Good morning, I spent the night dozing intermittently in a chair as Mrs Tkk had taken over the bed. She's a bit livelier this morning and has taken a few sips of coffee. It's lashing down and we have delivery of a Fridge Freezer scheduled for noon, rain is due to stop just before then. Kitchen is coming along, still a bare shell but the first fix electrics are done, the walls replastered and two coats of undercoat applied. We're still living in the lounge, and a trip to the launderette is due. Not done any running since Saturday, things are a bit too up in the air to focus at the moment, the training resumes next week.

We have been talking about holidays here

We have a problem as "The Wedding" is coming up and we have to avoid that
although neither of us are especially looking forward to it - but clearly she wants to be at her only child wedding - but the rest of it might be a bit wearing

anyway - we are looking at a 1 week trip to Italy - including tours of Pompeii and Herculenium
plus a few other places

Things is - the trip doesn;t involved flying - coach from just down the road all the way to Italy!!
(I presume it goes on a ferry at some point but that is not mentioned)

anyway - company is Shearings

Proper old person holiday company!!!

Personally, Coach to Italy would be my idea of hell. One of my in-laws, did a holiday to Barcelona by Rail. It was a sort of on-land cruise, they visited a few cities, having a few days at each. They enjoyed it. Another of my pals, in a fit of pique with Jet2, took a holiday to Majorca, travelling by Rail (and Ferry). He enjoyed it, not sure if he is still married however 🙂

Barnet,
Just back from a very damp dog walk. The coffee and almond croissants went down well.
The rain is due to continue for a few hours yet.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

I'd prefer to do that than fly with all those with screaming kids, drinking too much, taking up not only their seat but mine as well.

Mrs G has just gone to pick up 4 grand children who will be staying until about 4 pm. When she gets back, it will be time to make my escape in the form of a bike ride. I am not really a kid person.
In the meantime, she is expecting Royal Mail to deliver her new passport between 11 and 2 pm so I must stay put till she gets back.
Beautiful weather here again today.

Today’s ’to-do’ list has already been partly dealt with; bought tickets to see Pete Tong at the Royal Albert Hall in May. I’m planning on joining an “investor update” webcast later for the company I just left, in whom I am still quite heavily invested. I expect the dog’ll get a walk at some point, then it’s the weekly MTB group night ride which will end at a pub until closing.

Yes - it will be an experiment

but I think we will be OK - a lot of it will be at night and we will have our Kindles loaded up with books

better than some flights - generally more room and less chance of screaming kids and sitting next to someone who causes problems
but longer

anyway - we shall see - certainly more eco-friendly I suppose

Have you had a secret lottery win recently? You aren’t half splashing the cash on the house!
Yes! but I already told you all, £50 😂
I had a small - ish sipp that had been there since I retired. I didn't want to draw it as I'd been living below the income tax level for about 10 years and If I drew it out I would have to pay several thousand in tax. On my last birthday I realised that the next " Big One " would be my 80th 😮, and from observation of friends, neighbours and others I know, that was often the start of a more rapid decline ( not always, I have a friend who has just reached 90 and is still running 😎.
There's stuff that needed doing in the house, so I bit the bullet cashed in the SIPP, paid the tax and have been getting a few things done. Having the downstairs cloakroom converted to a shower room / Toilet was an eye opener as to what was possible, Solar PV and home battery was a big chunk, but that's sort of an investment as in our first full year since installation we ended up being paid more for the energy we exported than the total cost of the gas and electricity we used ( not including the standing charge, with that added in our total energy bill for the year was a couple of hundred or less.)
Kitchen was 20 -25 years old so that's our current project. We've also founfd a very good painter and decorator so have been having the place redecorated room by room.
We'll take a breather after the kitchen is done and head up to Saltaire for Mrs Tkk's birthday, then take stock when we get back and see what's left in the pot for the next project.
