Cake or ice cream? The choice is endless ...

We have all been pronouncing it incorrectly. Apparently it’s “Hun-dee“

A bit like when Oar-dee became Ow-dee, back when I had an Audi I just used to love calling the dealer to book my Oar-dee in for a service, they always corrected me!

Like:
'Porsha' not Porsch.
'Shkoda' not Skoda
'Eeeka' not Ikea

To me it’s still a Porsche 911 and not a Porscha 911, just sounds pretentious

The firm is named after its founder, and is a two syllable word. It's not pretentious - it's simply correct.

In keeping with the family name of founder Ferdinand Porsche, the company's name is pronounced [ˈpɔʁʃə] in German, which corresponds to /ˈpɔːrʃə/ POR-shə in English, homophonous with the feminine name Portia. However, in English it is often mispronounced as a single syllable /pɔːrʃ/ PORSH—without a final /ə/. In German orthography, word-final ⟨e⟩ is not silent but is instead an unstressed schwa.

Interesting that when we had to change our Hyundai, recent used were hard to come by, but the Kia Ceed is pretty much a Hyundai in a different suit, so much of the layout and ops are the same. :okay:

My Hyundai is 2015 and has the feature. When I was last looking for a car, this one, I went to the manufacturer's website. Most of them list their "approved used" or similar cars. It was a simple process to identify the car I wanted, visit the local Hyundai dealer who then got it in for me. I would follow the same process again.

Most of the vehicles seem to be ex fleet or car rental. Mine was 20 months old, under 5,000 miles, 60% of list price, fully guaranteed. It had previously been with Europ car.

Sad news

We have a small DIY shop in Widnes - Manbys
big enough but tiny compared to B&Q and that lot but there was always someone available who could help you find out what you wanted and get it for you
and the prices were reasonable

Just seen on NextDoor that they have closed down - went into liquidation a few weeks ago
I had noticed that the shutters were down when I thought I would pop in for something the other day - thought they were just closed for the holidays or something

but it looks like they have gone

shame - not many small DIY places left and if you have a "thingy" and don;t know how to fix it then they could always help
trying to get help in the big stores is difficult and the effectiveness of it is always hit-and-miss at best
