Ditto.

And whilst the little buggers carefully tamp down the soil when burying their hoard of nuts, they are less diligent when digging them up!

Yes, although we live on the edge of an urban area, we have recently "acquired" a squirrel. My wife likes to watch it's antics, and, I put a feeder on a tree in our garden. The little blighter goes through enormous quantities of hazel nuts, but, I have noticed it appears to bury most of them (in our garden, and the gardens of neighbours). It does occur to me that, if squirrel does not subsequently dig them up, we are going to be trapped in a dense jungle of hazel nut trees in the future ;)

Update on snowmaggeden.
The half inch we had has miraculously disappeared and it has been lashing down with heavy for the last four hours.
The patio and garden is under water now, and the rain is set to continue right through 'till tomorrow evening.

I read about this recently. Apparently squirrels retrieve between 25 and 95% of buried nuts. The success rate depends on species and distribution method. The distribution methods are either widespread over multiple locations or creating one or two larders. A squirrel buries up to 3000 nuts.

So you'll either end up in a forest or small wood.

At our last club quiz a question was how many nuts does a squirrel bury each year? I did some idle reading when I got home.

I did get out for my run earlier despite the weather being a bit grim. I tried out my new cap from Alpkit that Mrs Tkk got me for Christmas, it's fleece lined and has stowable ear flaps. What an excellent piece of kit, it kept me dry and warm and doesn't look too geeky.
Had a lovely hot shower when I got back, followed by a big bowl of porridge with a generous dollop of strawberry jam stirred in.
Been doing odds and sods and catching up on some football highlights on YouTube. I also stumbled across a video of Shane McGowans funeral where an=mong other things there was a performance of one of my favourite songs " A fairytale of New York " . I know funerals can be sombre, but this was the polar opposite, seems like everyone was letting their hair down and celebrating his life 😎
