Cooooeeeee. 5 deg abd dry here. Shopping day for us. I hope the shops aren't heaving with people shopping as if the apocalypse is about to start.

Stay safe peeps :hello:

I might pop round for a few bits and pieces too. Christmas is just another day for me, but I might treat myself to something different to eat if I see anything I fancy.

I see on my Facebook memories that on this day 13 years ago I collected my last salary from the Prison Service. Don’t know where the time has gone.

Although I believe in the big man upstairs I'm not into organised religion, an Christmas to me is just a cynical commercial holiday so I partake as minimally as I can get away with.

Being of Jewish heritage I keep my head down at Easter!

Good morning folks. Bin day today due to revised Christmas schedule, Veg box too. Daughter and grandson are travelling down from Leeds for Christmas 👍
In other news I had a play with the hearing test* function of my new Airpods Pro. It told me that I had mild hearing loss in my right ear and generated a personalised hearing profile. I mostly use my airpods to listen to Podcast while out walking, but fast forward to Saturday afternoon and a crowded and noisy Barking Cat beer festival. We were sitting at a corner table just below one of the jukebox speakers and I was struggling to make out our conversation. I had a rummage and found that I'd got my airpods so thought I'd give them a go. I was absolutely astonished. When I put them in my ears the noise faded away to a quiet background, and when my friends spoke the noise dropped further and it was as though there were just the four of us chatting. It was interesting that when none of us were speaking the background noise slowly increased but was never intrusive. I suppose this must be what people experience when they have hearing aids, and wondered if there's anyone with both who could compare the different experiences.

* AIUI, Airpods are recognised as a medically certified hearing device in North America and many other countries, the UK hasn't yet approved them. ( If the hearing test detects more than " mild to moderate " hearing loss then it won't generate a hearing profile )

Looks mild and probably dry here too so I should get out at least for a walk. Quite enjoyable getting peace and quiet while most peeps are busy with their festivities.

Well that's Christmas started

went to the butcher and picked up the turkey and Cottam's Hot Pot - which is a large pie
which SWMBO insists on having every Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve - normally we eat 1/4 (plus a bit) each and I have the rest a few days after
It is basically a tradition from her childhood

but this year I can;t eat it (gluten and all that) but we will get round that using the freezer

anyway - glad the butcher order went OK - I had no idea when I said I would collect it but the bloke who runs it said he generally expects about half the people who order from him to turn up when they say so he plans for it
apparently I was due this afternoon!
Actually thought I had to go climbing with the grand-daughter this afternoon - but her Mum "has made plans" - funny that - I asked her last night via text but she didn;t reply and her partner (SWMBO's son) replied late last night
I suspect an attack of "mother-in-law" syndrome as usual!!!

anyway
so far so good!!!

and does it work with a laptop and android things??

I have always had trouble hearing people in places with lots of people and air pods are maybe easier than hearing aids??

They are the Apple Airpod Pro 2. I got a pair for myself and Mrs Tkk in the " Black Friday " sales. I'm in the Apple ecosystem so can't try them on Android, though from what I've read " Transparency mode" and " Active noise cancellation " work but I'm not sure of anything else.

I tried a hearing test. I think it was online rather than Apple’s own one and it said my hearing didn’t show any problems. I didn’t think it would as I feel I still hear quite well apart from having annoying tinnitus. Normally tinnitus is associated with hearing loss but it doesn’t seem to be with me. It’s particularly bad just now with my sinuses being stuffed up as I think it puts pressure on the tubes running to the ears as well.
