Meteorological is for bureaucrats and doesn't count. On the other hand, the astronomical is the only that matters as it is governed by the earth travelling around the sun, hence dictates when the seasons starts and finish .
All countries in the world use it, only the English have invented another date to suit them.

Spent the morning in town visiting firstly a National Trust for Scotland tapestry exhibition, followed by the recently re-opened People’s Story Museum, which to my shame I had never visited before. Both were very good. The People’s museum is a bit of museum in itself, the information boards all stop at a current day of 1988
