Good morning all, a breezy 9° is forecast. Apparently the overnight high was 13° which explains why all the snow has gone.
Like @Tenkaykev I’m sure that I too would get a longer night’s sleep without the early morning wumph! of the gas boiler. We’ve looked into a heat pump but it was going to be so expensive both to install and to run that for now it’s on the back boiler so to speak.

Morning all :hello:

Godawful conditions out there.
Mate of mine is observing at a motorcycle trial near Porlock this morning. Think I'll stay in bed!
Lunch booked at the Railway Inn later.

Morning all.
A weird night for me. I was suddenly wide awake and assumed it must be 7ish, only to find it was 0100. But I was wide awake so got up, looked at CC to find @screenman was just going to bed.
Went back to bed at 03.30 and had a night full of strange dreams.
No idea what the day will bring apart from a Sunday roast later on.

Curtailed Bruce's morning walkies as its a real effort walking in that buffering wind. I'll make it up to him tomorrow, take him to the Rec to see some lady doggies.

When I was heading home past our local park I noticed one lady just sitting on a bench while her gorgeous yellow lab was just belting about on his own. I never understand people getting dogs that don’t enjoy walking themselves. Quite a few seem to drive to the park then just stand and throw a ball. Fair enough if you are occasionally short of time but it seem to be the done thing for many owners.

I've been looking at heat pumps for well over a year. All the horror stories tend to be down to poor installation or incorrect specification. I've seen some very usefull YouTube videos discussing this and it seems that there are some reliable installers, the " Heat Geek " network seems to be one of them, and Octopus of course, though they tend to prefer standard " boilerplate " type installations they do tend to do a good job. One problem is the lack of experienced installers, there's the BUS grant and that has drawn a few cowboys into the industry, one person saw a job advert for " Heat Pump installers, no experience necessary, immediate start ". I will be going down that route when our existing 20+ year old gas boiler dies, there's now a wider range of water tank sizes which were'nt availabe when we had a quick unofficial survey by the guy from Octopus doind our Solar survey.

The Rec is about a mile from here. I walk Bruce there via one route, let him off the lead at the Rec (he's exceptionally obedient and responds smartly to commands) and as I do a lap of the Rec I throw his ball.

By the time I've done a slow lap he's had 20 or 25 throws and run a mile flat out chasing it, so he's out of breath and his arse figuratively hanging out.

Back on the lead and we trundle home via a different route. I enjoy the walk and exploring what is still a new town to me, and Bruce gets enough exercise and poo time to keep him going until mid afternoon.

One of the reasons I like our large oil burner being in the garage under the far end of the house - it kicks in with a mighty wumph!

A friend has a staffie, she walks the 30m from the end of her drive into the woods, throws a ball, from one if those flicker things, once or twice and that's it for the day. Utterly pathetic and appalling for the dog.

The dog actually looks like a small pig with a massively bloated body.

Very sad.
