My oldest didn't go to uni, he said it wasn't for him. He had a Saturday job in Top Man. He has a very demanding attitude to work, sets himself high standards and expects others to do the same. After a while he decided to become a nurse, got a place, a bursary etc. His mother was in the NHS for 40 years so there was plenty of advice for him. After a year he quit saying "It doesn't matter if people don't hang shirts straight in Top Man, doing things badly in hospital kills people."

Long story short he went to Top Man, worked his way up the ladder, moved on when his old boss rang and said I have a job for you. My lad now works for a company which owns 40-50 well-known brands. He is responsible for the sales of tens of millions of £££ into retailers such as Asos. From memory I think he has one A level and 5-6 Os.

There is a lot to be said for starting at the bottom.

Just catching up with the coverage of Paddy McGuiness as he rides towards Glasgow. Apparently the Chopper was his favourite bike from his childhood, I wonder if it still is now after 300 miles ?
I think he passed as close to me as he’s going to get earlier this afternoon, Abington on his way to Strathaven. Accompanied by Sir Chris Hoy no less.

I didn’t go to university, left school at 16 with a handful of grade C O’Levels and started right at the bottom, I ended up having a pretty successful career including owning my own business for 15 years, now semi-retired providing sales training and mentoring mainly to the pharmaceutical industry, most of which have PhD’s!

Indeed. My youngest brother started as an apprentice bricklayer and worked his way up, site manager etc and eventually MD of one of the UK's larger building companies.

It has been foggy here all day, and it still is.
I saw a couple riding their bikes in the fog when I was driving back from school. Either they are foolish or completely unaware of the dangers as they were leisure riding.

Ironing day tomorrow l. Will catch up on the Mayor of Kingstown.

Lucky thing...I iron every day, Monday to Friday.
As I've taken over housekeeping duties, laundry get folded and put away, all that gets ironed is what's actually going on someone. So it's 5 minutes each time, no problem.
