Well, I had no idea ! I’ve just had to google it. To revise my previous response, it appears that I did indeed change my location on that date. It seems that on that date, Birmingham, along with Solihull, ceased being part of Warwickshire and became part of the new West Midlands. I was obviously completely oblivious to this
I went to bed, and sleep, in The West Riding only to awake in West Yorkshire.
The nearby border with Lancashire was also moved. Many found themselves in the wrong county.

Where were you on this day, also a Monday, in 1974?

Boundaries changed, new counties now in place, old ones gone.

I was probably driving around South West Birmingham in my GPO telephone engineers van.

no - not necessary - I know the way!
Kinda like sit on the edge of the bed, stand up, turn right 90°, take four steps, turn right just short of 90°. Seven steps will get you to the bedroom door, open door, taking one short step back, two steps forward. Turn right 90°, eight steps will get you to the required door on your left. Turn, open door take one step and turn left, lowering arm to enable you to lift toilet seat and lid. Then reverse the above to get back to the bed?

I forgot Morning :hello:
Ow'd you manage to forget the first half of the day?

My parents did live in Cheshire then one day they woke to be living in Merseyside. My mother was not impressed one bit and until her dying day refused to put Merseyside as her address......she always printed CHESHIRE.

My Mum was also horrified

Postal address was originally Cheshire - which was a nice place
then changes to MERSEYSIDE - basically Liverpool - that nasty place over the water
ACtually where my Dad came from - I think she considered it as missionary work!!!

Pity she died before she could see me buy a house with a postal address of Cheshire again!
(although I pay council tax to Halton and am part of the Liverpool City Region
but the Police cars and ambulances say Cheshire
altogether I am not sure where I live!!!)

On this day - the night before I went to bed in Wallasey
and woke up in Merseyside

Oh and all the debts of the old Birkenhead and Wallasey councils passed onto Merseyside
On a TOTALLY different subject - a lot of new leisure centres and stuff got started in 1973ish and every road sign got updated and new signs appeared showing old village and town boundaries - which must have cost a bit!!
(friend's Dad was high up in the admin for the counsel - he commented on night in the sailing club that the amount of money spent in the last year of the old counsels was amazing!!!)

Morning folks :okay: weather forecast has nosedived so that scuppers my riding plans...might prevent me from overdoing it though and doing my back in again
Last year an osprey turned up at the river mouth actively fishing so ive been looking out for its return, i never tire of watching one in its 'crucifix' hover and then dropping for a fish. :okay:

If I did that I would bang into the bedside table
clearly you don;t sleep in my bed!!!!
