I seem to remember not long ago finding a train tracking website for the UK that would, among other things, show and allow you to search by the locomotive/unit number, eg. for my local line I could see that the train is a class 720, and I could search for individual unit numbers such as
720 002. However, I can't find any link to it now, nor find it on a google search.

Anyone know of such a site, or have I mis-remembered what I saw?

I'm off to Liverpool next week to see the remaining 507s on the Merseyrail 3rd-rail electric system, and think there might still be a very few 508s around, so I would particularly like to track these down if I can.

Tracksy is another, but it doesn't usually give the running number, just the headcode on the signalling diagramme

A few photos from my trip to Merseyside on Wednesday 3rd Jan. The aim was to see some of the remaining class 507 and 508 - I saw many of the former but only two passing glimpses of the latter, which really are in their very last days. There are few other units of interest here too - a 92 having arrived at Euston on the Caledonian Sleeper, and a 769 (ex-319 with addition of diesel engines) at Southport on a Wigan service, and the new 777s which represent the new order on the Merseyrail 3rd rail lines.

The 2 sections closest to the crossing are in private hands now (making one house, I assume)

Most (I think) of the level-crossing gates, on this line, are manually operated; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1415764

Bit of a modelling bombshell. Hattons are closing. A closing down sale is currently on on all in stock products.
Blimey
Always found it harder to get to when they last moved.
Bought a bit from them over the years. And sent a few people their way if I knew they had what others wanted.

How ever much the High Street cycle shops have suffered in the last few decades they are still in clover compared to the hobby shops. There were at least half a dozen in easy distance from me when I was growing up, now I wouldn't even know where find one.

For similar items, I've a few that I can go to. Nearest one I would only go for a gander, not to buy. Customer service are two words that appear alien to the owners.
Small model shop, in Huddersfield, shut during covid and never reopened. Three in the town centre went years ago.

Theres a local shop that is that poorly stocked it's a waste of time and the only time I bought a tin of paint it was dried up. Another is aircraft/RC orientated but is useful for paint and metal or plastic strip. Otherwise it's the travel fuel cost makes mail order attractive especially when stuff can be sourced post free - Derails for example on orders over £20.

We're going on the Caledonian Sleeper in October. The hardcore one, to Fort William. It was that or a trip to Paris, and this is much more exciting. You normally get a class 92 between London and Edinburgh (it's an enormous heavy train with prodigious need for "hotel power") and a funky little class 73/9 from Edinburgh to Fort William. Or, if you're less lucky, you get whatever GBRf has on standby.
