According to the train indicator here at Totnes, three trains will arrive/depart inside seven minutes, none of them on time. Good luck with that...

And that is why they need some genuine American railroad stand watches...

That, and ‘cause these things are friggin gorgeous...

I think Illinois is still making watches, although origin may be less local. Mostly doing sales and repair.

They no longer make watches, but there is a remanent of the company still out there making meters. They used to make a high end railroad watch called the Sangamo, that name still appears on electrical meters. The kind you find on the back wall of a house.

Yes, they were originally in Springfield, Illinois, Sangamon County. But the Illinois Watch Company is now in Quincy. I think the original Illinois Watch Co was subsumed by Hamilton.

Yup, Hamilton bought out Illinois in 1928. By the 1920s Illinois was about the only company to truly equal or beat Hamilton when it came to high end railroad movements, Hamiltons fix was to buy them out. The Illinois name was around for a bit on some nice wrist watches but was pretty much killed of by about 1940.

I have a Sangamo Weston street light time switch up in the loft somewhere, I used to use it to switch my electric blanket on when I was a kid. It has a sunset/sunrise compensation mechanism on it which I didn't need, so I unhooked a spring to disable it. After 55 years, I've no idea where the spring is, and probably couldn't remember where to refit it even if I found it, which is a pity.
