Back on my bike after a few weeks doing not much at all due to a bad back. That was a bit of a rude awakening. I chose a not too hilly route for Saturday but had to defer it to Sunday. Pretty cold, wet/flooded roads and lots of mud and grit but no actual rain. And legs that weren't very co-operative. I made it OK in the end but it was a grind.

good job i got one in at the start of the month, the last few weeks i have either been busy , ill , the weather has been crap or a combination of the three . Im getting a bit stir crazy now :cursing:

I managed another one yesterday, it was not the nicest ride! I took some new gloves that weren't as warm or waterproof as advertised. Very painful heat bains at the cafe stop but got another one ticked off!

Congrats Si, great job on getting your seventh year in this challenge done and being our first finisher for 2023!

Well done @Sbudge 1st to finish (I think ) the weather must be bad 10th of the month and only 1 rider in

To be honest it was not a day to be riding. 15-25mph winds and heavy rain the whole time. However due to lots of work travel I really had no choice. It was today or miss the challenge...and that wasn't going to happen. I'm just lucky it wasn't an icy one!

Have a look at Dissent gloves - https://www.dissent133.com/ - same people as Hunt wheels apparently. I have the set of 4 & they actually work. Waterproof outer is actually waterproof (so long as you ensure cuff of jacket is over the glove (slipped up on Sunday & rain was torrential, so top of inner glove was wet). No issues with cold hands which was a regular problem with other "winter" gloves. I've only felt the cold when temps are well below zero & no-one in their right mind should be out cycling (yes, I'm daft enough to out before 1st light on a winters morning in freezing conditions...to get the miles in).

I've finally got round to posting my last couple of 100k's, adding another for November & my qualifying ride for December to complete the year. Only 10 days after completing the ride, but at least I got to it eventually.
To be honest, chasing 100k's has become something of a side note of late, with my preference to chase down Wandrer miles & the 100k's being something that may happen along the way. The recent weather hasn't helped, with all the wet & windy weekends, including binning the planned ride on Sunday & turning for home early, finishing with just over 40 miles. Torrential rain & strengthening gusts made it unsafe (& unpleasant to continue).
Well done all who have completed the challenge & good luck to those who still need to squeeze in a December ride. I know some of my recent rides have required gritting of teeth to get through (my 84 miles to complete December started with an hour of rain, plus showers, deep puddles, mud & a puncture along the way). I'm sure all those needing a 100k can do the same - grit your teeth & battle through it. Good luck.
