My diary for June is a bit hectic so I decided to get my metric century in early and combine it with the lunacy climbing malarky thing. A straight out and back ride taking in some of my favourite/most feared hills.

A beautiful day for cycling. Cool-ish but with some sun later. A light breeze but not windy. My legs were fine up all the hills. The only slight downside was that as it was a last minute decision I didn't get any nice food (pork pies, malt loaf etc) to take with me, I just had energy bars which are OK I suppose.

I've finally got round to posting my final May 100k & after a week away, I've knocked in my 1st 100k for June. My final May 100k was a Bristol orbital, starting from Frenchay village & running anti-clockwise around Bristol. Some rough lanes & some busy roads, but some nice roads as I got east & north of Bristol.
Had a week away in Northumberland / Scottish borders, but no opportunity for a 100k (just not enough time free to cover the distance without interfering with daytime plans). I did get a few 30's in - 2 at 37 & one at 32.6 (598m, 598m & 567m ascent). Nothing I'd call a serious climb, but plenty of up & down.
Had a bit of drama on the last ride...I saw the lane said ford, but didn't expect a river crossing (Whiteadder, from Chirnside to Paxton). The ford started as concrete, but switched part way across to cobbles. Unfortunately slippery cobbles, 6 inches of water & road tyres don't mix...resulting in a dunking. Only 11 degrees out at a little after 6am & 30 miles still to cover. Gathered my composure, saw nobody was watching & swallowed my pride. After wringing out the excess water from my gloves I pressed on, but arrived back with numb toes.
After a long drive home yesterday it was good to get out this morning. A bit of loop before the club ride & then a ride out to Weston's Cider at Much Marcle. Dodged the worst of the showers & had an enjoyable ride, knocking in 77 miles. Halfway through the challenge...

Well done. I suffered a freehub failure (tbf there had been mild warnings at least in retrospect) on the way back from a Wednesday pub, made late by one more cheeky half. At about 2315 on a rural road, with a hip waiting for replacement (so walking running scooting home was not an option (10km+)): freehub fail. Zipties to anchor the cassette to the spokes failed/parted as soon as any force applied. Fortunately I had some friends in the next village so scooted (false flat) ther and knocked them up (getting on for midnight) and borrowed/swapped a bike to get me home, remediated in the morning returning bike and bottle, and new freehub (which my LBS had in stock) fitted on the Thursday afternoon.
But what are the failed freehub workarounds? It's been suggested that if one has/carries a spare gear cable that will do. Or I guess pull out the rear gear cable and use that.

She's a triathlete I did suggest if her partner had bought her shoes she could have run home about 12 miles 😉

Congratulations on Lejog @ukbabz
06th - 169 km / 2269m - Axbridge to Worcester
07th - 177 km / 2437m - Worcester to Macclesfield
Clearly you looked for as much 'scenery' as possible.
Would be interested to see D3 and D4 routes to understand. I presume you took in plenty of Cotswold 'squares' on D3.
How about sharing a RwGPS route for ths whole trip? Or post in the LEJOG sub-forum.

I didn't do the planning for ours, it was provided by a company we were going to use but in the end didn't due to numbers. There were a couple of routing errors but generally was OK!

We didn't go into the Cotswolds in the route, but went over the Severn bridge and up Wye Valley. We did manage to cover around 1300 tiles over the 10 days :-)
