one of the platinum group metals

It's in the iron column: iron, ruthenium, osmium, so I'd expect it to be chemically rather like iron

The platinum column is two further along: nickel, palladium, platinum

(set myself a little exercise of learning them all, but am a little hazy about the actinides and the mysterious new ones in the very bottom row)

EDIT: it seems "platinum group" is rows 2 and 3 of the iron column to the cobalt column, thus ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium in the 2nd row then osmium, iridium and platinum itself in the 3rd row. Top row metals iron, nickel and cobalt above them don't qualify. It seems to be corrosion resistant unlike iron. My A level recollection of the behaviour down the columns was a bit too superficial

It arrived yesterday. This one came in a zip up bag, unlike the black one which came in a hat box.

I didn't wear it with that shirt and in fact the suit as they don't go. Maybe the suit but definitely not the shirt. I just took the photo to show you the hat on my bonce. It fits well, but maybe just slightly bigger then the black one I bought. I'm glad I didn't buy the 61 centimeter as that would've been far too big.

It certainly has a high crown! With it being slightly loose on the head it might take off on a windy day, but like the black one it comes with a lapel button and cord to connect the hat to whichever jacket I'm wearing, so even if it blows off my head it won't embarrassingly blow down the road, with me chasing after it!! 🧐

I used the cord today on the hat's maiden voyage! It's quite fiddly, so in the powerful wind we had, it was very hard to unfasten it to button onto my jacket, so I nipped into a shop asking if it was ok to do the task in there. They said yes, so I fastened the button through my lapel's button hole. The hat didn't blow off, but at times it felt like it was going to, with me out of habit immediately grabbing the brim, not being used to relying on the cord to save the hat from take off!! 🧐
