Is this the place to discuss clothing options? If so I'll ask for opinions here. I'm a 50yo male who basically likes I dress in jeans and outdoor clothing. It's comfortable and imho doesn't look too bad. However in colder times I find a fleece, gilet and synthetic insulation jacket seems too much when out. Also being waist length I don't think they're quite warm enough.

So my question is, are parkas acceptable for males significantly over 30yo? They're long, well insulated, waterproof, got double cuffs with thumb holes, high collars to keep my neck warm, plenty of pockets and often have drawstrings at the waist so no bellowing heat loss. Negative can look like overkill, fur hood lining looks rubbish but if removed the hood isn't great/ doesn't quite work.

If not suitable then what is as good that is?

I've got an insulated field jacket that I've been wearing this winter and I really like. Nicely made one so it fits in all the right places, cotton ventile so it's waterproof, loads of pockets, zips in the arms and at the seat so you can sit down, I've been comfy and cosy so far.

Yes, in my opinion. I was wearing a 'Merc' mod style customised parka up till 3 years ago, when I was 59. I gave it up due to a change of image, not due to my age.

You can't beat a good tweed/wool coat in my opinion! The heavier it is the better it'll be at keeping you warm. They take some drying out when wet though. Sometimes the outer of the coat takes 2 days to dry out fully, if it took a soaking. The heavier, thicker coats take longer, but are more likely to stop rain reaching the coat's inner layer.

I bought a tin of Timpson oxblood renovating polish the other week. It's nice and soft, full of pigment and does the job very well!

I actually enjoy polishing my shoes.

Memories of the Saturday night routine getting prepared for Sunday School in the morning.

I'm not a big fan of polishing my shoes now as I do it outside and living next to a busy road and busy pavement. It's such a noisy experience, unless you do it late at night and I'm thinking when someone scruffy walks past (which is usually the case ) that they'll be thinking "why bother polishing shoes ha! ha!". They'll probably think I'm going to a wedding or a funeral. I don't polish them inside as I don't want bits of polish on the floor and the smell of shoe polish sets my dog off on a sneezing fit. I've even tried polishing shoes in the bathroom while he's in the living room, but he still sneezes!

Sad but to be expected when you look at the average man's footwear these days!!! 🧐

Kiwi shoe polish to disappear as UK no longer cares about shiny shoes

This confirmed my fears that the stuff had been discontinued when I couldn't find any to shine up my footwear for the most recent Remembrace parade. Looks like I'll have to get used to using Saphir instead which I'm led to believe was always superior to Parade Gloss anyway.

My three fedora hats came the other day, pics to follow.

Anyway, so far my Peter Christian basket contains five items. I add things, ponder over them, then either keep or bin them.
