As suggested in the title it is aimed at "Renaissance fair" wear.

Which I suppose is sort of fancy dress.

Renaissance fairs are a mostly American concept, supposedly recreating a medieval village atmosphere from the English Renaissance period (Elizabeth I). Not usually a lot of historical accuracy involved.

What is this all about??!!! 🧐Who the feck would wear such a ridiculous get up, unless they were off to a fancy dress event, or appearing on a theatre stage!!🧐

French peasants?

Having said that, some of the below get ups are quite adventurous. Mmm, maybe it's time to slightly break away from tweed and 'embrace' some medieval attire. 🤔

Whilst I'd not personally quite have the nerve I can see the appeal of some the dressing up scenes, steam punk in particular.

Came across another scene one whilst crossing the millennium bridge in London and there were a huge group of people dressed up as furry animals coming the other way. Initial thoughts where that they were the chorus from a show on their lunch break, or maybe we were in some kind of horror film type scenario. When we passed I saw they all had id-lanyards on and were chatting to each other all wearing these incredibly elaborate cute, yet disturbing, furry animal costumes. Evidently there was some kind of furry animal conference just finished. Naive me didn't even know this was a thing.

Many years ago I did get involved with English Civil War re-enactment, and to be fair dressing up in historic costumes, playing with gunpowder (we were artillery), and drinking lots of beer was a pretty good fun way of spending a weekend

Straddle the line, discord and rhyme

You do understand that's how you look to other people, right? I mean fine, whatever, dress how you want but 🤷‍♂️

Mrs D is revamping my wardrobe for my birthday later this month. Tweed jacket, new shoes, some new flat caps, the full country gent look.

Might be worth considering a full tweed suit. I now have two, and whilst I normally only wear the jackets, it's nice to have the option of the full rig occasionally.

Brogues with commando soles is the ideal footwear to match. Or at least, sufficiently heavy duty brogues that can be commando'd by the cobbler later when worn through

Sort of faux Farage.

But then I'm not sure he meets the gentleman spec requirements.

Why isn't it pronounced like garage with an f. Faredge.

It certainly can be. I'm still a member of the Sealed Knot, doing that several times a year. My daughter is currently our regimental commander.

We were with the other lot, the English Civil War society; apparently they were formed following a big schism within the Knot over the organisation being too pro-royalist.

Suits are difficult for a relatively narrow waisted (for my height) 6'4" man with big guns. I had to get measured up and have my Stonecutters morning suit made bespoke.

I'll probably give Accy the vapours by wearing jeans with my tweed.

But have you the legs to wear the kilt, that would be acceptable to Accy, as long as it's clan Accy of course

I wouldn't wear jeans and tweed myself. Well maybe I'd consider the darkest ink blue ones, with a crease in the front and not even the slightest hint of fading! 🤔 🧐
