Everybody knows that summer in the UK starts after Glastonbury and Wimbledon have finished. If there is going to be a summer that is.

I never used to be bothered by the longest day, but since cycling I am starting to feel ever so slightly "down".

For me "prime" season starts early March and ends mid to late October. That means I am smack bang in the middle of the cycling season and i'm disappointed that apart from April, the weather has been ever so poor. I have tan lines on my arms, but by now I should be looking like I have been in Gran Canaria for 2 weeks. For the past 8 weeks we have pretty much had at least a 10MPH wind. Not just rain, but bloody showers. I don't mind a few days of non-stop rain, but showers just make riding so unpredictable and just plain annoying. I don't mind riding in rain, but I hate the way I have to prepare equipment and clothes on me for something that "might" happen.

Have to say I am praying that July, August and September prove to be a lot better.

It was so dull and overcast here on the longest day that I felt the need to use lights while going out for an evening ride at around 8.30pm
