The life of a water bottle

Have searched on the site but can't find a thread on this...
How long do people keep their water bottles for before they replace them. I wash mine out after every ride and have yet to replace any of them...with the recent ability to get free high 5 bottles all over the shop, I now have quite a few!!!
Thing is, I seem to remember reading ages ago that plastic bottles can start to give off chemicals after a while...am I just dreaming or was it one of those things where people say anything is bad for you, or is there really something in it (sorry about the pun)???
Thanks
Russ

If you don't get a funny taste off the water, and don't feel:hyper: or :addict: or :boxing: , I'm sure they will be ok.

They are only cheap.
If they start to whiff and I can't get them clean then I just throw away.
But yes, they are cleaned and dried thoroughly after every use.

I have never found a free high5 bottle yet grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Plastic ones i have are years old but get milton'd regular.

Just binned some older ally ones as they got badly dented and scratched.

A tip from home brewers is use white ones.

They use white plastic buckets because they tend not to taint the beer.

The stuff to clean a baby's bottle will do a good job of cleaning a smelly bike bottle.

An alternative - generally cheaper - is a denture cleaning tablet.

I tend to leave water in mine , I empty and refil before a ride but leave it after in case I forget on my next ride. rather with water than without. - however funny it may taste.
though in uk you don't need to take water, you can always scrounge it from a pub or a house. - I carry it more as part of my first aid kit. - however manky.

The water in the bottles on the commuter can be there for months easily as I rarely drink on the commute. If I do need some and it tastes manky I change it when I get home.

Water on Lelly gets changed before every ride.

+1 to the denture tablets too.

Think I might be over cautious then...I get paranoid if the water is more than a day old!!!

Are they that good?
IMO, yes. The are made of a medical grade something or other, but it means water tastes like water, whereas with cheapo bottles I've always found the bottle taints your drink somewhat.

Yes they cost more than standard bottles, but short of losing one they should last indefinitely. I still thouroughly clean the nozzles from time to time, and TBH the bottles are looking a little worse for wear from my cages, but they still taste like they did when I got them.

I orginally had 750ml ones, but after several bounce out with carbon bottle cages I switched to 500ml ones and they're perfect.
