 Why wouldn't the bike come out? Was there a shark pulling it back in?

I pulled over once to take a jacket off. Pulled up to the end of a little country lane, and put my foot down on the verge, which was raised above the tarmac level. Except it wasn't, it was LOWER and the grass was long. I leaned over, and kept leaning, until I flipped over completely and ended up upside down in the ditch under the hedge, still 'on' (or under) my bike, wheels spinning lazily..

Luckily there were a couple of members of the group behind me, who helped pull me out!

I t was like "slow motion, slow motion, slow moti... very fast!"

I wish someone had been videoing. It must have looked hilarious. All my friends saw when they rounded the corner was my bike and legs sticking out from under the hedge at 45 degrees.

It didn't actually hurt, everything was quite soft. I did spend the rest of the day looking even more than normal like i'd been dragged through a hedge backwards. Which I had.

Yup, that's the place, the fact that it floods at the first sign of rain didn't cross my mind, it just looked a nice firm and smooth surface!

Reminds me of when I was on the Commando Walk - a yearly sponsored event at my school, where you went out and did 'challenges', mostly involving mud, it being the middle of the winter. One lunch break, with everyone eating their sandwiches under a bridge on the towpath, I decided to go up the slope to find out what was up there. Not much, it turned out. Coming back down the slope, what with the mud and no grip, I suddenly realised I'd picked up too much speed, and wasn't going to be able to stop in time. All my friends saw was me, for no apparent reason, trotting down the slope, over the towpath, and into the canal.

It was very cold.
