But something like live sport needs to be instant

Stick to AM/FM radio is the only way for that.

Steady on. Carlos was something else when it came to free kicks.

I do hope Arsenal get through though, always had a bit of a soft spot for them as they were my "English club" as a kid. That defence of Seaman, Keown, Dixon, Adams and Winterburn was unreal.

I remember Carlos well - especially the Tournoi goal v France...

The first of Rice's had definite shades of that, going round the wall and curling back in. The second is the top-corneriest top-corner you'll ever see.

I've spent most of the day just watching replays ^_^ :wahhey: ^_^

But I'll let you judge for yourselves - I reckon Roberto would have been pleased with both of these!

Whoa. That's a little harsh. In English football we have Bristol Rovers and Blackburn Rovers. Accy lives in Accrington, Lancashire which is 6 miles from Ewood. Bristol is adjacent to Gloucestershire. I guess Bristol Rovers will be Rovers in your area.

Rovers are Rovers, just as City are City, United are United. Boro are Boro. No Rover* would ever refer to Blackburn or Blackburn Rovers.

In the same manner we never, or very rarely, talk about Ewood Park. We play at Ewood. *I'm not a fan/supporter, I'm a Rover......or very locally a blue.

That's just how it is.......and it isn't a suffix.

Yet if you ask me who Boro beat 2-0 at the weekend, I'd reply "Blackburn".

Last night we lost to "Leeds" no need to mention to U word. sadly the appeared to have stopped falling apart again.

I and many others refer to the team who plays at old Trafford as "Man U"

whilst I have no doubt that locally in your corner of Lancashire you and @Accy cyclist are correct, in the rest of the (football) world "Rovers" and "United" wouldn't commonly be used.

Having seen the replays Leeds had two perfectly good goals chalked off for offsides which never were.

Disclaimer: No I don't support Leeds just making an observation.

Yes. I'd agree with that, we also blasted some decent chances wide or over the bar. Leeds deserved the points though.

blumming tight for those last two play off spots and the perm 2 from 3 for the auto promo too, and the relegation dogfight...got to love the championship for that. loads of crucial games over these last 5 matches.

I share your appreciation of the championship, always exciting, and to see teams like Bristol City entering the play off zone can only be good for the fans of teams "who are considered makeweights"

I didn't watch the game but saw photos so, yes, it looks like it should have been 3 - 0. Luckily it didn't matter though because Sheffield United and Burnley dropped points and Leeds' goal difference is already pretty healthy

Spot on with the second paragraph. I thought we would be involved, I'd even negotiated an away day at Bramhall Lane! 🤣

Yes, I take your point, as I've lived and worked in the north-west for the past 44 years I could be blind to it. It's interesting. I would refer to United, City, Rovers, County, North End, Stanley but never Wanderers or Athletic............and of course we don't even mention Burnley. I wouldn't use, but if someone did, The Alex I would know the club they mean.

I do though still feel United are recognised as United across the world.

On a similar note when I used to watch a lot of Portuguese TV the commentators etc would never call Ronaldo by his surname, he was always known as Cristiano.
