Printers Devil
StoneGate (where 'Coffeepot Yard' joins)
York

There's nothing satanic about it, 'printers devils' were the youngsters/apprentices, who dealt with the minor happenings of an early printing workshop
It was just a sign, like the red/white pole, for a barber, or the wooden Indian, for a tobacconist

’Junction Hotel’
Corner of Albion Street, Church Street & Carlton Street
Castleford

Nice tiling, a surprise that they’ve survived in Cas!

IMG_8617.jpeg

This was also a pub, for a while, the Laventivm”, the Roman name for Castleford
(previous to that it was 'The Horse & Jockey')

IMG_8618.jpeg

There was a small fort there, just north of the pubs, & a crossing point on the River Aire (a ford)

I take it this is the sort of thing covered by this thread. An old GPO marker post that's about 2' tall and that I've ridden past almost daily without noticing its existence until recently.

As later identified by @13 rider as a GPO Jointing piller, I've just found another one on a back road in Waldringfield. Goodness knows how many tmes I've riddden past it without noticing!
