November 2016 we were camped right on the beach just meters from the sea. We turned in around 10pm. At 2am we were woken by screaming and banging on the camper van sides by the NZ Police, they were shouting “Tsunami !! get to high ground immediately ! “ The whole campsite quickly emptied and we just followed everyone else to high ground expecting the worst. At 3.30am we were told to return to camp site, it was a close call I tell you.

We took the plunge when the boat had to go. That was just at the end of COVID. Nowhere near as much fun as sailing was. But better than being stuck at home
This is our transport of delight.

Bikes go on the back, two of us can travel in comfort and independence. We can pootle into town or do the odd day trip
Stay on sites or find quiet parking spots.

That’s just the right size for us two.

A jolly and freezing morning dealing with nibbled cables
Some furry and stupid thing has eaten the cable between the diesel separator and the rest of the vehicle.
Not mission critical really. It's just there to tell you when there's water in the separator.
My fingers are now tingling.
Means we will be away for New Year.
Also means I have now sprayed everything with the marmot deterrent spray. Should have been before the event rather than after.

Sprinters/MAN/Crafters (same body and structure, different engines) are becoming a popular conversion in the UK.
The issue with many panel vans is that they don't have sufficient width for transverse sleeping if you are 6' or so. Current Sprinters are 6m or 7m long, where VW/MAN and the Stellantis vans have a 6.4m option.

It's not unheard of for rodents and even foxes to nibble at the wiring. I've heard there's some chemical in the modern plastic coverings that attracts them.

Quite common here with the pine martens (here actually stone martens but pretty much the same thing). Pipes and any tubing are the usual targets and they even target certain brands more than others (VAG vehicles) due to the type of plasticizers used, one they apparently like chomping on…

Yes I know. In Europe we had a detterent spray. Based on bitter experience .
Never expected to need it in " your country"

Apparently T6 headlamps are a bit shoot anyway, so you'll need them.

Only the H4 on the T6. They're so bad used headlamps literally cannot be given away when people upgrade.

I have the 6.1 with dual H7's, which is a big improvement. The LED's on the top models are better still, but the H7's are already quicker than the van itself. The Lazer lights (slaved to the main beam - I bought the plug 'n' play loom to go with them) will be excessive, but i want the look as much as anything else because im a fickle poseur.
