I thought there was only me that was *that* tight.
How very dare you!
I am of course talking about unused, fresh from the container, fully synthetic fork oil. Nothing less will do for my bicycle chains.
The fact that it is a fraction of the price of your Finish Line and similar products is irrelevant 😄. Just, errr, convenience. Yeh, that's it, and it comes in 500ml containers, not those "5 applications for a tenner" miniature bottles. ^_^

I have a washed out jam jar with used fork oil. The silt has sunk to the bottom (yes, there is rather a lot) and the supernatant, to use a great chemistry word I haven't used for years, is nice and clean and bright green. I pour this off and I've used it on all sorts, inc my chain.

I have been using Squirt Lube for the last few months. Have to say I am impressed so far. No major waxy build up, the drive train stays uber clean and it is eco friendly. It has performed ok on a couple of wet rides. I do re lube more than if I was using an oil based lube but the lack of crap build up on the drive train probably off sets the cost by increasing the longevity of the components.
I've just started using Squirt on my gravel bike. Very impressed. When I get home the chain looks as clean as when I set out.

When looking for it online be sure to search for squirt cycle lube...........either that or clear your Google history afterwards!!!

I have been using 3-in-one since I was a kid - eitehr that or the leftovers from my Dad changing the car oil

My Dad muttered something about what they used when he was Ground Crew on a bomber base during WW2 but I missed it - I suspect it was not 3-in-1
and I think I suspect I know what they cleaned the chain with as well!

Gear oil.

Very cheap. Tacky, so doesn't fling too bad. Its high pressure oil, so reaists being forced out from between two moving parts. And it smells lovely.

Right... everyone go for belt drive, lets do away with these threads once & for all...:rolleyes:
But then my trousers will fall down!

Met a fella I know from my cycling group that I haven't seen in over a year due to lock down. He was on the new bike he bought just over a year previous, complete with rusty chain!! Any lube is better than none.😀
