oh dear @Fab Foodie did you go for the orange ?

if so does it have Holdsworth or La Quelda on the top tune ?
Holdsworth .... It matches my jersey .... And cap .... And yes, Orange of course!

Just had a nice evening run on the Elan :-)

must admit i am sorely tempted just to put away as i already have 2 single speed keepers and another track frame to build at some point
One can never have too many bike builds ....
Just done this for my son based on an old 531ST British Eagle Touristique frame ... To be honest it rides sweeter than the Elan :-(

Annoyingly you have got me thinking - so question number 1. What is the tyre clearance like - could I squeeze a 35mm in there?
Don't know but give Planet X a call .... They were very helpful when I bought mine. I'm hoping to run 28c with guards but I don't know if they'll fit as I wasn't thinking guards at the time!

I just did - they say that they recommend 28mm max . I would like to push to at least 32mm without guards, so I think I will leave it. I was very close to getting the last orange frame left in my size to build up a 'do it all, go anywhere' ride but don't want to risk a max of 28mm.

Looks like I'll be on 28c without guards then ... But that's OK for me, it's only a fun bike!

I still cannot let the thought go. Would a 28mm let me attack bridleways and canal paths as well as light touring, commuting and the pub? I guess 28mm works on the likes of Paris-Roubaix, but what about grit and light mud?

The right 28mm works fine on canal paths, dry bridleways, and NCN style off-roadery, apart from the very occasional pinch flat (like once in several years) ime. Whether you want the higher level of battering that comes with riding off-tarmac on such slim hoops? Only you can say. I found gel under my bartape revolutionised my ride.
