The 2023 Half Century (50km or 50m) Challenge Chatzone

The forecasts for Thursday and Friday next week are looking okay. If they turn out to be accurate I'll try to get my 50 in then, and make it a much more interesting route than my most recent one which was a flattish busy A-road fest.

Friday (or possibly the following Monday) round this way is looking clear to get my sub challenge 50k outside Suffolk ride done. Mind you, they don't seem to be able to get the forecast correct for 48 hours ahead, let alone a week.

Suspect I am going to have to finish by doing local circuits in between spurts of homeworking later this week. Finishing as I started the year, rather downbeat and unexciting. Hopefully I will get a good un in over Chrimbo....

Ride with Chorlton Wanderers, this time quite handy for me as the pub lunch was only 10 Kms from home. Very wet on leaving Chorlton but dried up after an hour or so. Home in daylight too. A bonus.

There was rain forecast from nine, so with my usual early start I would only get about half an hour on the wet start. As it turned out, it didn't start raining until ten, by which time I was already back inside.

I planned a route that should avoid most places likely to flood, and I did manage to keep my feet dry. The water in Shellford was higher than I have ever seen it

There's a crossroads behind me where I was taking the photo with a car abandoned in the middle of the lane. It seems to have flooded, and the driver tried to go through water that was too deep. Luckily for me the flood had already subsided.

Finisher no9 , Well done @UphillSlowly on successfully completing the challenge on your first attempt . Im reasonable certain you are the only challenger this year (or any other year ) to include an ascent of the Passo Giao in a challenge ride

Chilly but dry and bright morning so an easy ride out to Frederick's for coffee and toasted teacake, just managed to scrape over 50 Kms without riding around the block.
98 points in the bag. My highest ever was 101

Done and dusted - a worthy ride to visit my crocked eldest and a bunch of local laps to get over
35 miles. A cold do, and the outward leg was into an unpredicted wind. I saw loads of sunshine near where I was riding, and on joyous rare occasions I rode through it - which felt surprisingly warm.
