In fact @BenTHP would do better to forget about the new bike and his Fuji and go out and find a good S/H Galaxy to do the ride on

I think the RAB is a bit more roadie/club rider focussed, so the OP's current bike would be well suited I think. IIRC there is quite a lot of help/advice on the event website, and there are training rides in advance where you could test things out.
