So Mick, the man who knows everything.
What do you know?
There's two standards. Levers with a pivot to barrel dimension of +/- 25mm are suitable for use on centre-pull calipers, side-pull calipers, (old-style short-arm centre-pull) cantilevers and most, if not all drum brakes including Shi**no roller brakes. Until recently all drop bar levers were this pattern.
With the arrival of linear-pull, 'long arm cantilevers', or 'V-brakes' (Circa 1996) came a dedicated lever with a pivot to barrel dim. of +/- 35mm.
So there's 'V-brake' levers, and there's 'everything else' levers. The two types are not compatible without the use of a dedicated cable pull adaptor/convertor of some kind.
