Regrettably, I've just notified Paul that I'm withdrawing. Im not shaking off the chesty cough. I wish you all the very best. If in a week or two, the rides are still available, I might have a go and see how I would of got on in comparison. I just think I'm too much of a risk for you chaps to put faith in me holding it together for 3 races.

Is there a 'dislike' option? ^_^

Seriously though it's a real shame you've not been able to recover - you'll be missed . Get back to full fitness soon Andy,

I’ve done a short effort in the velodrome a little while ago. It’s not looking good at the moment. The burning smell’s gone, but the resistance is still up and down. The highlight was real power 150w vs BKOOL 7w for several seconds.

I’m mindful that I’ve had turbo problems in the past that have worked themselves out. I’ll open up the turbo tonight to see if it’s something obvious (if it is a cat stuck in the turbo that would be a bonus!).

Bert it’s a very kind offer mate but logistically it might be very difficult as I’m not home much this week and my family have deserted me for some half term sunshine.

Tommy. You are also welcome to use my turbo. It will only be the motor part of the turbo that needs swapping out so I'd be happy to meet you half way between yours and mine which can't be more than a few miles. I can easily manage without my turbo for a week or so.

The team is jinxed this year! We have Andy unwell, Tommy with a burning smell from his malfunctioning turbo, and now I have a major broadband problem! As in the new broadband that was meant to go active at midnight at the latest, is still not working. I called them this morning and was told BT Openreach have to send an engineer, and they would contact me "to arrange an appointment" in 48 hours - i.e Friday..... :cursing:

I'm not going to use my mobile as a wifi hotspot again as it burnt through my entire data allowance and to add to my problems this morning, meant my phone was deactivated :banghead:

Who is 2nd reserve? @BILL S
Having taken a look at the competition, it looks like we'd have a good chance of coming in 3rd place, looking at the Belgian & German teams. Trouble is they are youngsters (30's/40's) so may have much better endurance than me in my mid 50's. My worry is that I might struggle to even complete the three stages as I'm much better at a short sprint than I am at a 3 hour effort. We should therefore perhaps choose our reserve riders based on Age more than fitness. I think you are only in your 40's Carl and would have a much better chance of still being able to lay down some power during stage 3 than I would.
Quite worrying was just how much my undercarriage hurt last night after sitting on the turbo for just over an hour. After 3 hours

We're not that far apart Paul. You're welcome to use my house for the race if you can't get your network up. I live in Mere just off the A303

Happy to be the youngster at 48, but Keithaitch and Aleman were faster than me so should have first dibs. I'm definitely up for it though if all other options are exhausted.

You boys just won’t take the bloody hint will you!

It’s bad enough I had to blow up my own turbo trainer. Now it looks like the only thing that will get me out of this is death! And even then I reckon Bill would be kicking my door in with a defibrillator strapped to his back, demanding to check my pulse!

I’d be lying if I said I’m struggling to stay positive about this thing at the moment. But there’s no way I want to let anyone down. Bill I think borrowing your motor is a genuine option. I’m snowed under at work at the moment so legistically I might have to get it couriered over to me rather than meeting up. But I do think that it’s definitely an option under the circumstances.
