Just to echo what others have said. Thanks a bunch for doing this Geoff, it's really cool.

I've had zero chance to get on the bike all week barring my commute but have cleared my schedule for tomorrow! Quick after work snack. Then wife will be putting my daughter to bed as I'm limbering up!

I'd also be interested in bridgy's question regarding starting peddling. Can we start peddling before entering the full course screen or do we have to wait for some type of command before we do so?

And thanks from me too Geoff. I keep liking your posts and all but is not enough. We are lucky to have you around to set things up, patiently answer questions and deal with issues arising from bkools, err, quirkiness:rolleyes:
Honestly, you should be on a retainer!
Thanks mate!

Been off the radar (and bike) for a few weeks due to work ... am aiming to do the ride tomorrow night if I can get away from work on time. Not read all the threads so gonna ask instead ... is the chain gang tomorrow the handicap race?

Just realised there is a special thread for the handicap race .... I didn't know Cyclechat had other threads  I assumed Cyclechat was the BKOOL thread :wahhey:

Hoping to start the ride tomorrow. Not ridden for 2 weeks, and been working in New York stuffing my face with their 'hearty' meals, so could be a bit of a struggle for me :heat: Let's see how sick I can make myself xx(

Yes to everyone asking about pedalling before you start the handicap. Pedal like a nut job as soon as you hit NO. You will hit the ground running then, no need to start from a standstill. It's not like the beginning of a normal session. The only person this doesn't apply to is the person initiating it.

The rest of us can.

No worries Ryan, I'll just delete it. No doubt you'll do it quicker than that anyway

Apart from those on the start line during the warm up (i.e. GailB and anyone else who decides to sit there until their start time)

I'd test it out first, but pedaling before you start the handicap certainly worked last winter, you could basically start flat out, as you can see in this video from last March at around 20 seconds in, I join the race pedaling furiously...

I've recorded a little video to show the starting procedure for the Handicap race

https://www.dropbox.com/s/gjmbx89e1lktk5h/Bkool Indoor 03_02_16 16_30_24.mp4?dl=0

Please ignore the Warning dialog after entering the password, as it was recorded on a computer without the ANT+ dongle, you shouldn't see this.

The Video shows selecting the live tab, applying handicap in the advanced filter to find the session, seeing the time underway counter and entering the password, then Clicking No to start the session when the underway counter gets to your handicap (in this case 15.0 minutes).

I've left the session running for anyone who wants to practice.

Geoff

Geoff - what a star.

I'm starting to get nervous now and have told Mrs GW the normal Thursday weekly shop at Morrisons will have to be put back 24 hrs, as I don't want to be running around and miss my start time.

Just a quick question for clarification as I'm second off just 2.5 mins after Gail, who I presume will be disappearing up the road at 7pm on the dot after a 10 minute warm up session. So am I right in thinking I need to follow your instructions in video, and select the ride in the Live section between 19:00 and 19:02 ready to hit the 'No' button when 2.5 mins are showing on the Underway time bar. If I did the warm up and sat on the start line for 2.5 minutes before pedalling, I'm sure that would throw my time out for the run.

I just better make sure I'm on the ball.

Should I start a book on this. At the moment I think Bertie Bassett should be about 18/1 now he's running on slick hooves, and the rest of the field should be 25/1.

I suppose in an ideal world, if the handicaps are correct with a field of 40 starters, we should all be about 30/1 - as the bookie has got to make some profit.

I tested it Geoff on your demo session. You can start pedalling before the session starts, it works fine.

And yes Wolfie, start as per Geoff's instructions, don't sit on the start line, it will throw your revised handicap time out.
