Rick,

You should never hurry any repair. Sleep on it until Sunday and the solution may come to you. You don't want to run the handicap either day and take a chance of messing it up permanently.

Edit. Or if you do, take an extra 2 minutes and 57 seconds to finish.

Out of range generally means the video signal from the computer to the screen is above or below the clock synch speeds the monitor can cope with. This generally means it has been set to a resolution and/or refresh rate which is beyond the capabilities of the connected monitor, which is a strange thing to happen when you run a specific application since the display is generally managed mainly by the OS, unless the application takes over direct access to the display for performance reasons.

Is this WIndows 7? Sounds like it only happens when you run Bkool Indoor and you can alt tab away (try Control-Escape as well, should bring up the Start Menu and Desktop). I presume that Bkool is set to run Full Screen?

Do you know what resolution you have the screen set to, and what refresh rate it is using?

Geoff
That seems to all makes sense to me Geoff - definitely a strange one. Like you say, how does a program change the refresh rate like that?

The full message is 'Out of range 95.3kHz / 60hz. Its Windows 7 and resolution is 1680x1050 at 60hz.

Taking the info from the Nvidia control panel rather than windows (does that make a difference?)

Only happens with the Bkool software and both Alt+tab or Ctrl+ESC take me out of it again.

Must try my laptop to see if it works ok with it.

UPDATE: Got it working again - Googled the Out of range quote and got a gamer who solved a similar issue by pressing Alt + Enter to cancel full screen mode. Works now, as long as I dont use the full screen mode again! (Sorry Randy!!)

I already have my half day off approved but I work on medical equipment for a consortium and have an x-ray machine with problems down on prince of Wales island ( Tywysog Cymru island to Add) so I sure hope to be on the line a minute behind you tomorrow.

My Bkool Sim has crashed some in some way.

My wife rang me today when I was at work to say it was trying to do an update then the screen went blank. I uninstalled the software and reloaded it. Still the same - black screen - the monitor throws up a message about it 'being out of range' as if there's no longer an appropriate signal. It's not the same message it gives if there actually isnt a signal, so there's something there but I cant get past this. I have to hit Alt and Tab to get back to the desktop. Is everyone elses working after update?
Not exactly.

'Upgraded' to BSIM 2.25 and everything went all to pieces.

The PC would keep displaying 'Do you want to end the session now' messages. They mouse & keyboard would freeze and the only way to sort it was to turn the PC off at the mains.

On contacting BKOOL they said unplug the mouse/keyboard/Bluetooth/phone, or generally anything wireless, as it 'might be interfering'.

Did that. Problem persisted to some extent. Changed the USB extension cable which was only a matter of inches from the trainer. Same. Tried 3 different USB sockets (BKOOL had suggested they might not be working). Same.

Next BKOOL suggested trying a different PC, which is all well and good for those who might just have another PC hanging around. Fortunately I do (I've probably got 4 PCs kicking around here somewhere). Not yet had the time to do this (and no doubt BKOOL will 'close' my problem again because I haven't replied soon enough).

However, the one thing BKOOL don't seem to get is that nothing has changed on the PC and everything worked just fine. Until I installed BSIM 2.25. The PC still works perfectly and reliably 100% of the time - except when using the BKOOL!

Not happy is an understatement, Rant over.

Moving on. Best wishes Geoff, and speedy return to 'normal' for you. I do intend to try your Cheddar ride but not sure that is a good idea - just look at the consequences. ^_^.

Well I did a wee test and used tomorrows Vuelta chain gang ride. The loft was sweltering and I realised that it will get a lot worse by mid summer. Did the upgrade yesterday so was on the start line and joined by other rider when the screen started to lock up. After 10 or 15seconds it kicked me off the connection with bkool and the other rider disappeared. I don't know if this was coincidence or not but next time I logged in it went more normally. When I say more normally I don't mean totally normal because I did he ride in that heat, making fairly low power but still did it in about 30 min's flat, and didn't feel like the low power I was able to make should allow me to go that fast. It didn't feel like the same ride as before so I'm wondering if the software update has changed things.
Tomorrow at 7pm I will start the race warm-up and when the timer counts down to zero, everyone can set off at their allotted time as posted by Geoff on the previous page. If WILS is there it'll be at 0.00 for him and for Paul 3:44 and so on. I think Adam is starting with me at 12:39 so we can suffer together, which always helps.
I will password protect the ride and it'll be "chain" without the " ". Once the race is well underway I will probably leave the start line and re-join for 12:39.
Geoff, I haven't yet figured out how the times will record in the league or how you had planned to do that. I'm guessing that all rides will need to be approved and I can add everyone's handicap time onto their result. That should work. Randy, I know that I owe you 4 seconds so you'll get that back after tomorrow.:okay:

The times just record as they are, i.e. minus the handicap. It records the time it actually took you. The handicap is just there for a bit of fun, to get the riders together towards the end.

If you wanted the handicaps to be added to the resulting times, you would have to set the league forcing validation in some way (set minumum heart rate and cadence to 200 or something equally silly) so all times could be adjusted.

So its my first road race tonight (Mallory Park) .. am i right in thinking that i can just ride straight up behind people and ill auto overtake or teleport 5 metres ahead of them?
Sounds about right. Make sure you stop peddling before the start of the race or you wont be able to move.

All the best with it and let us know how you get on! :okay: I'd love to get myself built up sufficiently to have a go at racing some time. Maybe next year... :bicycle:

I'm home, but not allowed to exercise (or drive) for 4 weeks, and then I need a CT Scan and an angiogram to find out if it's OK to get back to exercise.

So no way I'll be riding in April or May leagues, and there seems little point in paying my Premium subs, so I can't even do the league admin!

Bill, If you're OK to admin the league in my absence, I'll do what I can to help.

I did prepare the handicap info for this weeks Chain Gang Handicap chase, and will try and video it from different rider's perspectives if I can, as I won't be taking part.

Here are the handicaps based on last months run ...

Adski 13:02
Bill S 12:39
Geoff 12:10
Kipster 11:27
Monte 7:36
Randy Berlin 7:30
Bobinski 7:09
Blueface 6:28
Rayvon 6:16
Richylad 4:17
Paul F 3:44
WILS 0:00

If anyone else wants to join in on Thursday or Saturday, we can sort out a handicap based on fitness level or previous times.

Geoff
I'll join in, and start same time as Bill.
