Likewise I do the same as @keithaitch but with two old tee shirts instead of towels. I find them very useful to catch the sweat whilst pulling away from him.
I happy to know that at least you break sweat when humiliating me.

That is what I do as well. I sweat like a pig. I saw this "sweat protection nets" - does anyone have experience with them ?
I have the Cycleops one - https://www.rutlandcycling.com/accessories/turbo-trainers/cycleops-bike-thong-sweat-guard_99625 - it seems to work OK and has a couple of potentially handy pockets at the front.

To be honest I would say the biggest factor for preventing excessive sweat on the bike is a really powerful fan though, so you're constantly blown dry!

Has anyone had any issues with their bike getting damaged by sweat? I am using my summer bike (with an old spare back wheel)... I am thinking of doing a monthly deep clean to keep it in good order.

yep - i had an old giant on the turbo , old and battered but usable - left it on the turbo without looking after it and basically mullered it from the handlebars down was a right off

What kind of damage? Just trying to work out what I need to do to protect my frame / parts!

Not really, but I've seen some horror images posted on line of corroded handlebars from bikes used on trainers.

Having said that, the only issue I have had is a rusty chain from sweat dropping onto the chain - the sweat cover doesn't really prevent that, so need to wipe down/lubricate the chain after every ride

both brake levers corroded / unusable , front brake rusted solid . headset rusted solid ( when finally pried apart both sets of bearings just solid rust ) front wheel skewer springs rusted and the most disgusting sight and smell when taking bar tape off - ends of outer cables rusted, tops of forks pitted nearly through.
i only used to make sure chain and gears were workable - but now it is a dedicated turbo bike - old wheel in front , brakes taken off , cover front end with t shirt , wipe down with old towel and spray occasionally front end with wd40
lesson learnt !

Decathlon does a thong for about £10. Covers the stem , headset and 2/3rds of the top tube. Works well for that area. However the issue I had was at the BB area was rotted away from pit sweat I think. Nothing can be done for that area without washing the bike after each session.

One to watch out for are the bottle cage bolts... sweat drops down on to them and corrodes them.. time comes to unscrew them for whatever reason.. snap :B) even worse in a carbon frame..

Unscrew them now.... go on, do it... bit of lube.. all good again.. :heat: phew, close one... :thanks:

Yep, had metal corrode pretty badly because of the sweat, resulting in me having to put a new rivet onto the carbon frame. Also the sweat corrodes cables if it gets in.
I use a tacx sweat cover and a towel draped over the headset for use and protection.
