Thanks guys for tonights session, I got dropped straight from the off and was never going to keep up. I was saved by the bell I had a visitor turn up so I had to log out. I am up for the re-run on Saturday and would welcome a few more novices as the pace of the front group is way out of my league.

Thanks again, see you again soon in Bkool world.
Hi Monte, have to say you kept me motivated trying to catch you. We mustn't be too far apart on ability. Pity you had you drop out as it was harder to keep the motivation going! Don't think I'll be there again Saturday. Twice in a week is enough for that course.!!

That's the trouble with having a good memory. I've already forgotten the pain and just thinking, "bring it on"!

Within the sprint, mountain and landmark classifications, points are assigned based on each participant’s split times.

Thus, this classification is based on points, with 3 points being awarded for the lowest elapsed time between the start of the session and the end of the split, 2 for the second best and 1 for the third best.

Points are also given based on the lowest split time, with 5 points for the best, 4 for the second best, then 3, 2 and 1. These points are added, so the best user could have as many as 8 points.

There seems to be two completely separate ways of getting points.

There are also two types of sprint and mountain splits, "point" or "interval", where point is a single end point to reach, but interval adds a start point and the speed between start and end is significant, and also earns points.

For both types there are 3, 2 and 1 points for the fastest three from the start of the session to the end of the split (i.e. the sprint or mountain "point" or the end of the "interval").

In addition, for "intervals" there are an additional 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points for the fastest five from the start of the interval to the end of the interval (i.e. from the start to the end of the sprint or mountain "interval")

On this session we had One Sprint "Interval" and two Mountain "Intervals" so max 8 sprint points and 16 mountain points (I like to use Intervals so it's not just the first three there sweeping up all the points).

Having said all that, it does seem that Kipster was robbed of points in all the intervals, as he looks to be the fastest on the sprint and combined 5th fastest on the two mountain splits, so should have some "interval" points in both, even if he was fourth to reach the end point every time.

I'll email Bkool ...

Is everyone still getting the blue speed indication on the downhills, to indicate that you are freewheeling faster than you are pedalling?

From the moment I swapped to the KICKR I no longer get this, the speed stays white and if I stop pedalling furiously it slows down dramatically. Is this just me, or have they adjusted the algorithm?

I still get it going down the longer steeper hills. I have even seen it while going up a hill... if you figure that out let me know :reading:!

I must say I am impressed with everyone's stamina and persistance on the 50K session. I was worried about putting it in the league, but it seems to have brought out some really impressive performances and mixed a few things up a bit.

I'm particularly impressed with those of you who have stuck at it for almost 2 hours and done it multiple times! Kudos.

Great training for long outdoor runs, as it is pretty relentless without any freewheeling. When I went back out for my first rides this year, the first thing I noticed was how rarely I was really on the power, compared to the trainer where you have almost no rest at all.

I'll try to keep the league as mixed as possible, and look for some more longer runs to stir in there on occasions! ^_^

Nevertheless, I'm sure you will all be pleased to hear that next weeks should take less about a third of the time!

pah! as I feared.little fuel = little energy!

beating a tactical retreat this time round

You need a stack of snickers bars by the bike, should still leave you with a nice calorie deficit by the end of the ride.

Mind you, they are hard to eat during the actual race, as there was hardly a moment when I wasn't gasping for air and stopping breathing to swallow was tricky. Sure I breathed chocolate several times, my wife had to check on me to see what all the coughing was about!

I'm maybe targeting an FTP type session

Don't worry about the FTP type session, next weeks chain gang ride is perfect for working up to Active 5 or so. It's the only time I have got a fitness increase from a non-FTP session, as it is almost exactly 30 minutes long at active 4/5 and is a pretty steady upward gradient averaging about 2% and never getting much above that.

I'll be amazed if there isn't several fitness increases straight after the rides, with the motivation of chasing the rest of us to push everyone along ... :ninja:

I'll try and find a similar but slightly longer session for the nutters faster guys, as anyone above active 5 will finish in less than 30 minutes. :bravo:

No bloody wonder I got dropped on the descents, it doesn't free wheel at all on the KICKR! :cursing:

Please can someone try an experiment for me on a Bkool Pro (and the Elite would be interesting) when they are next on the simulator.

Schedule a steep descent such as the Descenso Alpe d'Huez

http://www.bkool.com/profile/detail/129022?durationType=DISTANCE&lapCount=1

Then try soft pedalling on the steep downhill (say -10% right near the start) and see what speed it gets to and if the speed indicator goes blue.

I tried this just now with the KICKR and it just sat at zero miles an hour on the start line, and when I soft pedalled at a few watts (with my hands) it barely moved, no acceleration down the decline as you would expect. On my Bkool Pro it would accelerate up to 30-40 mph, on the KICKR it sat at 3mph.

There's my excuse sewn up!

New to the BKOOL, wasn't aware it would freewheel so just pushed as hard as I could from the beginning to the end! I have no idea if it was blue or white I was just trying to keep the power up which is really hard downhill much more so than outside, managed to move up one level though:okay:.
