Very interesting @bobinski, thanks for the link. He sounds like a very determined individual, with a quite unique issue to deal with.

Sounds like I should certainly be able to train up to a sustained 220 watts at 140-150 bpm or so, if he can do it at less than 100 bpm. And if I can keep around 70 Kg or less, getting up Ventoux sounds doable. However, I'm not very brave when it comes to health problems, and the possibility of 2+ hours of exertion provoking a stroke that far from home sounds unpleasant.

I've spent the last 10 days having regular bouts of vision disruption after trying to average 17mph on my last run out, so I've been telling myself not to push so hard. Hopefully they'll stop soon, as they have previously, as I'm really missing my cycling. The weather at least is trying to make me feel better by being absolutely pants.

It would help if the doctors could tell me what is causing these visual problems, what caused the strokes, or how much exertion is safe without running the risk of causing another, but they haven't got a clue about any of it and could only say that everything looked fine, apart from all the bleeding and brain damage! :B)

I must check out how he gets on with his ride, I've wanted to cycle up Ventoux since @BILL S first made us do it in the Mountain Goats a few years ago.Geoff

I looked at the article quickly Geoff but didn't read it, but I will now.
It's a complex thing, the body, and not always easy to diagnose.
In my experience everything I go to the doc for ends up with an internal inspection, a visit to the Urologist followed by a diagnosis of not drinking enough water.
So I have given up and just put up with a life of distracting feelings of wanting to either No1 or 2 for a good part of the day (and night).
I'm hoping that eventually my brain will treat it as normal and ignore it.
Good news for me is it is much less life threatening than what you have to deal with so I should count my lucky stars.

Other good news is that both my knees are A OK.

I've broken them both on more than one occasion. The 'funnest' one was when I'd just started up on my own and taken on a load of work in a Sainsbury's refurb. Great opportunity for me but everyone had to work at a relentless pace. I broke my toe Sunday going down the stairs at my parents new place in Hastings. My dad forgetting to tell me one of the steps was shorter than the others as some type of ancient anti-burglar device I took a bit of a tumble... That was a tough few weeks to say the least but I somehow blagged my way through.

Although as far as can remember my toes have always been a bit of a weird shape

Reminds me, I must drive the coast road next time I visit my mum. Head for Sutton and then stay on the coast, as close as possible until Hythe and then cut back to Ashford via Sandling or cut up through Sussex and gloat at all the houses I can't afford probably hitting Tenterden on the way.

Have 2 SC rides to catch up on, so it's SC4 for me today around 5:15. Currently 120 in the GC so this should hopefully propel me up the standings. I have @Marino.g as a ghost so if I can get near his time I'll knock something like 48 minutes off my GC time. Will hopefully put me top 70 and @Goldwolfie territory.

Just have SC5 to do then to be up to date :okay: . A case then of re-doing some of the stages to try and better my times

I think a stage a day for a week ( s1 twice and on Tuesday accidentally done the wrong stage s7 ) deserves a bottle of wine or 2 and a day of rest tomorrow . Only need s5 then I am up to date .. I have been using Bkool again this week because I got hit by a car a few week ago and do not feel like training on the road at the moment ..

SC4 out of the way. Struggling with fitness still but posted an OK time. A few emails of shame sent

You must have started later that 5:15. I spent a while looking for your ride and gave up and did the CG 2.
Boy I must have gone deeper than ever before on Thursday, my legs were like lead today.
Had a job keeping up with Steve and then Bill but things started loosening up toward the end and I manged to smash the last 2 km to best Bill by a mere 15 seconds.
Heart and lungs were fine it was just the legs that were dead.

I started about 5-25 in the end .... got distracted by the wife who wanted me to start tea before the ride :hungry:

There was rain, cobblestone, wind and hills, but I did surprisingly well in my time trial race, all things considered.
However, I don't think I would have qualified even if I have had a perfect training season without all the bad luck and illness. The cut was unusually high this year and you had to stay inside 41 seconds from the world champion (on a 24,5 km route) to qualify.

One positive thing I learned was that I seem to have found an effective TT position. My garmin told me close to 40 kph at 265 watt. Now, the power returned by my power pedals is probably a little on the low side, but even 40 kph at 270 watt is very acceptable efficiency.

Well done LBHIFI. You have had a tough year but that's a cracking pace :notworthy:
