I have added the two road sessions for Jacobs Cup to may favourites from page 2016.
I suggest you do the same and recce them so you understand which stage will pal to your strengths.
You can also go looking for dead stops and other awkward moments in the session so you won't get caught out.
Perhaps we should do these in a live Thursday session as well.

It would be a great spectacle to see you and Jacob do the last stage of the CG against each other AAAC. 18 seconds between you both. The winner would have bragging rights going into the International Invitational Triple Stage Cycle Classic ( or xx( for short).. no pressure big man.. :becool:

Actually these stages look pretty OK to me. Not great on the uphills but it's not a hard one. Stage 2 is a downhill thrash and stage 3 velo is a spin of the legs. In any shape we need to make sure we are hidden amongst the other riders and expel as little energy as possible. If there is a stage 4, then I'm putting it forward that this is a drinking competition....

Just had another go at the CG stage 1 as I think I was a bit out of sorts when I first did it.

Was going really well and comfortably sticking with Jacob and planning my devastating sprint finish - when disaster struck and I lost my chain which got jammed and took AGES to fix
(well, 38 seconds according to the stats but as you all know that feels like for ever in those circumstances!)

I got overtaken by AAAC and Bill's ghosts during that and was 35 seconds down on them at one point but did manage to reel you both in and improve my time so not a complete disaster. Pretty annoying though - I think that stage might be jinxed for me!

Hi Guys
A friend of mine has invited me to ride the Welsh velothrone charity cycle ride in July I believe.
It's a 140k with some serious climbs.
Has anybody done this ride before as it looks like a brute and I'm wondering if I should consider it as my longest ride to date is 60 miles tops.

That looks like a serious undertaking. You will need some proper training to get that distance and climbing done. Those climbs will sap any and all energy.

Edit. Try some of the bkool 100 mile 161km routes as training! It gives you an idea of what you may be up against whilst it's winter.

I haven't done it but July is quite a way off still. You could build up to it by doing longer rides / sportives and I'm sure you'd be fine.

Without wanting to state the obvious it sounds like the saddle you have isn't the one for you.

I remember you going through this process before Bill but I can't remember whether you bought a new saddle or re jigged the one you already had. The distance of that stage shouldn't cause discomfort under normal circumstances to be honest. But if it is then DD or any longer ride is going to be torture!

If it was me I'd tick these things off the list

1. Bib tights are a nice snug fit so pad doesn't move about. Pad feels nice and comfy

2. Don't wear underwear, just bib shorts

3. If the those things are ok then it's the saddle or your position relative to the saddle. I'm not a big believer in needing to break saddles in unless they're leather. I think try the saddle, if it's not comfy move on life's too short.

With regards leather saddles I have a brooks saddle I'm not using and I'd be happy to send it over to you to try out. It's the comfiest saddle I've ever had Bill. There's a breaking in period where some people suffer more than others but it's well worth it as you're left with a sadddle that's shaped itself to you. I don't use it because I've had one stolen already when commuting and it's not right on my summer bike. But like I say I'd be happy for you to give it a go. If you don't fancy that I'd recommend taking advantage of Evans returns policy on saddles.

Thanks for the advice and the offer of your brooks saddle Tommy. Unfortunately I have come to the realisation that my bike is actually to big for me and I should have bought a small size instead of a medium. I always find myself inching forward on the saddle and end up with my sitting bones not where they are supposed to be. My saddle is as far forward as it'll go so not sure if there's any other modifications I can make or positions I can try to improve this.
I already took advantage of Evans saddle return policy and tried what seemed like a very padded saddle but it was no better at all. Next step may be to try a smaller frame.

Nothing up yet Bill but that may be Bkool in Sunday mode.

Gotta say I've enjoyed the long-ish rolling stages in the January gang..

Cheers

Jim, all I know is I reviewed and approved all the rides awaiting approval or deletion. I couldn't remember who they belonged to as there were quite a few.
